This number will change as there are still 3 months of October, November and December in 2025 that have not been counted and the number of international students coming to Taiwan is expected to continue to increase in the later part of the year.

Therefore, according to Mr. Lam Vi Chi, the number of Vietnamese students studying in Taiwan will almost certainly exceed the record, because in the previous school year of 2024, the number of students studying in Taiwan was 39,695.

Also in 2024, the total number of international students studying in Taiwan is 123,188. This means that the proportion of Vietnamese students studying in Taiwan accounts for 1/3. The number of Vietnamese students in Taiwan increased by 44% from 2023 to 2024.

The countries with the next largest number of international students coming to Taiwan in 2024 are Indonesia with 16,212, Malaysia with 9,686, and Japan with 8,779.

Therefore, according to Mr. Lam Vi Chi, Taiwan will still strongly implement a series of new policies to attract international students, including Vietnamese students, to study and work in Taiwan.

Taiwan will expand Taiwan Scholarships and promote educational cooperation with ASEAN and South Asian countries, with Vietnam among the priority groups.

Universities are encouraged to implement the "Enterprise-School Cooperation Program" and the "Technical Training Program for Foreign Youth", creating more job opportunities for students right after graduation.

At the same time, schools are also encouraged to open branch campuses or specialized programs abroad to make it easier for international students to access the Taiwanese education system from their home countries.

In addition, there is the "Plan to Promote International Students to Study and Stay in Taiwan". This program mobilizes resources from the government, businesses and universities to design specialized training programs according to the actual needs of the industry.

In addition to theory, students also have opportunities for internships, career guidance and work after graduation.

Upon completion of the course, the program terms require students to spend some time working in Taiwan, both as a commitment to the program and as an opportunity to gain experience in an international environment.

Mr. Lam Vi Chi said that universities are encouraged to set up specialized consulting departments for international students and to cooperate closely with businesses to design study programs to help students easily integrate into the working environment after graduation.

5.2 billion TWD plan to attract students to Taiwan

A bigger step that has just been announced is the Plan to Promote International Student Recruitment and Retention in Taiwan for the period 2024-2028. According to the plan, the total investment capital is up to 5.2 billion TWD, equivalent to about 3,900 billion VND.

The goals include establishing 10 new overseas training facilities and promoting links between Taiwanese universities and businesses to jointly develop specialized departments to meet human resource needs.

The plan aims to attract more than 320,000 international students and retain more than 210,000 people to stay and work in Taiwan long-term by 2030.

Mr. Lam Vi Chi emphasized: "We expect that more and more Vietnamese students will choose Taiwan as a destination for study, research and start-up."
