On the morning of May 26th, Mr. Truong Huu Tien, Director of the Management Board of the Sam Mountain National Tourist Area (Chau Doc city, An Giang province), announced that the People's Committee of An Giang province has agreed in principle to waive entrance fees during the 2024 Sam Mountain Goddess Festival.
The 2024 festival will take place from May 22nd to June 3rd in Nui Sam ward, Chau Doc city. This also marks the 10th anniversary of the festival being recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (2014-2024).
According to the Director of the Sam Mountain National Tourist Area Management Board, from 0:00 on May 28th to 23:59 on June 3rd (corresponding to the 21st-27th of the 4th lunar month), the Organizing Committee will not charge tourists any fees to visit and participate in the Sam Mountain Goddess Festival in 2024.
The 2024 Via Ba Chua Xu Festival at Sam Mountain will be held according to traditional rituals. The opening ceremony will take place on May 28th. From May 29th to June 3rd, the main part of the festival will include traditional ceremonies such as: the reenactment of the procession of the statue of the Goddess from the stone pedestal at the top of Sam Mountain, ending at the stage of the Goddess's temple; the bathing of the Goddess; the ceremony of bringing the sacred image of Mr. Thoai Ngoc Hau from his tomb to the Goddess's temple; the ceremony of returning the sacred image of Mr. Thoai Ngoc Hau from the Goddess's temple to his tomb... Along with these are activities aimed at promoting and introducing to local people, domestic and international tourists the image of the land, people, scenic spots, historical relics, and typical and unique cultural heritage values of the locality.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Doc City, said: This year's festival is expected to welcome millions of visitors. To ensure the safety of tourists, Chau Doc City (An Giang) will implement many measures to ensure security and order, resolutely preventing social evils and property theft.
The city has also devised a plan for rational traffic flow management, minimizing the number of vehicles moving within the festival area; preventing prolonged congestion or traffic jams.
In 2014, the Via Ba Chua Xu Festival at Sam Mountain was included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Tay Ninh is currently preparing a dossier to submit to UNESCO to propose the inscription of this festival on the list of Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
