Following Liverpool's 0-3 defeat to Atalanta in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, manager Jurgen Klopp promised a strong response in the Premier League match against Crystal Palace in round 33.
"The whole team will react strongly, I can promise that," Klopp said ahead of the Crystal Palace game. "I don't think the defeat was the lowest point, but in terms of performance it was worrying. But the really good thing about a bad performance is that you can play better. Let's start from there."
The German coach confidently stated that he has experience overcoming painful defeats and affirmed that the entire team would not be burdened by the Atalanta loss. "It must feel terrible, and it certainly does. So I told the players to take the result home, get some rest, recover, and come back," Klopp said.

In the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final at Anfield on April 11th, Gianluca Scamacca capitalized on a mistake by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to give Atalanta the lead late in the first half. Liverpool then squandered several good opportunities – with Darwin Nunez missing two close-range shots and Harvey Elliott hitting the post – and paid the price. Scamacca completed his brace in the 60th minute before Mario Pasalic scored to seal a 3-0 victory.
In this match, Klopp made six changes to the starting lineup compared to the previous game against Man Utd, and admitted he was surprised by Atalanta's intensity. Key players like Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Szoboszlai, Andy Robertson, and Luis Díaz came on in the second half, but they couldn't help Liverpool score.
"We made changes after the first half hoping to regain control in the second," Klopp continued. "But Atalanta showed superior quality. As a team, we failed to demonstrate that. I need the whole team to be energetic, fit, giving their all, with a little anger and full of passion. Not too concerned about the team's circumstances."
The only positive aspect of the Atalanta defeat was Diogo Jota coming on in the second half and Trent Alexander-Arnold being included in the matchday squad after more than two months out with injury. Klopp revealed that Jota only had two training sessions before the match, and Alexander-Arnold was unable to play but was on the bench due to UEFA regulations allowing teams to register 23 players.
Currently competing for the Premier League title with Man City and Arsenal, and facing a tough task in the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Atalanta on April 18th, Klopp expects his key players to reach peak physical condition as soon as possible.

"My job isn't the easiest in the world , nor is it the hardest," said the 56-year-old coach. "The important thing is to get the players on the pitch together and then things will work out in some way. We play with different formations and want to play quality football. But in the last game, we didn't do that and we lost."
