BTO - Over two days (December 19-20), the People's Council of Phan Thiet City, 12th term, 2021-2026, held its 7th session to assess the implementation of socio -economic, national defense and security tasks in 2023 and set directions and tasks for 2024.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Van Luan – Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Council, and Ms. Le Thi Thu Huong – Vice Chairman of the City People's Council. Attending the meeting were Mr. Pham Van Nam – Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and Secretary of the Phan Thiet City Party Committee, Mr. Phan Nguyen Hoang Tan – Chairman of the City People's Committee, 32 out of 35 City People's Council delegates, and representatives from various departments, units, wards, and communes.
At the meeting, delegates discussed the situation and results of the city's economic and social tasks in 2023, noting a recovery and development trend, with national defense and security maintained, and all 6 targets met or exceeded the assigned plan. Delegates were very pleased that the city had invested in urban beautification, making Phan Thiet increasingly more attractive, meeting the needs of the people and attracting tourists. Specifically, the number of visitors to Phan Thiet reached 6.25 million, a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Revenue was estimated at approximately 14,800 billion VND, also a 20% increase. Seafood production was estimated at 63,000 tons, reaching 110.1% compared to the same period; there were no fishing vessels violating foreign waters.
The quality of education was maintained, completing the 2022-2023 school year program. During the year, 3 schools achieved national standards, bringing the total number of schools meeting national standards to 33 out of 64 schools, a rate of 51.56% – meeting and exceeding the target set by the City Party Committee's Resolution for the 2020-2025 term. The enrollment rate of 6-year-old children in grade 1 reached 100%. The operation of the Intelligent Operations Center (IOC) has initially proven effective, quickly resolving feedback and requests from citizens.
Along with the discussion and evaluation, the delegates proceeded to question and listen to the City People's Committee's answers regarding the insufficient supply of medicines and medical supplies according to the health insurance list. They also raised concerns about the use of e-cigarettes among teenagers, the increasing number of drug users leading to crimes, the use of explosives in fishing, and the illegal trawling. Following these concerns, the Chairman of the City People's Committee, Phan Nguyen Hoang Tan, presented further relevant issues and acknowledged the opinions of the City People's Council delegates.
At this session, the City People's Council conducted a vote of confidence for positions elected by the City People's Council for the 2021-2026 term. The City People's Council also considered, discussed, and approved resolutions on the city's revenue and expenditure budget estimates and budget allocation plan for 2024, the public investment plan and the list of key projects in Phan Thiet city, the organization of regular sessions of the City People's Council, and the tasks for 2024.
