The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has provided information related to the 10th grade exam scheduled to take place in June 2025 with a proposal to keep the third exam subject, foreign language, stable as in previous years.

On October 24, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City responded in writing to comments on the draft regulations on grade 10 admissions of the Ministry of Education and Training and provided relevant information on the 2025 grade 10 exam in Ho Chi Minh City at a regular press conference on the socio -economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh City's viewpoint on the 10th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year is to maintain the organization as in previous school years, based on reviewing and ensuring compliance with the regulations in the regulations on secondary and high school entrance exams of the Ministry of Education and Training. Specifically, for many years now, the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City has taken place with 3 compulsory subjects: math, literature, foreign language (in which candidates mainly take the English exam) if they register for the regular 10th grade and specialized and integrated subjects if they register for the specialized and integrated 10th grade.
An official from the Department of Education and Training said that Ho Chi Minh City will prioritize foreign languages as the third subject, which is stable and consistent with theeducational development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City in the current period.
The representative of the Department of Education and Training also said that, with the goal of reducing psychological pressure for candidates when first approaching the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, helping candidates have goals to strive for, review the right focus of the exam subjects, creating peace of mind for families and society, the Department of Education and Training will fully and clearly announce the contents related to the organization and regulations in grade 10 admission.
Regarding the draft regulations on grade 10 admission of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City agreed with the contents of the draft regulations on grade 10 admission of the Ministry. Some issues that need comments to help improve the grade 10 entrance exam are being compiled by the professional department and will be recommended to the Ministry of Education and Training in the near future.
However, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training proposed that localities should take the initiative in choosing the third exam subject in the spirit of ensuring comprehensive assessment of learners' abilities and qualities in accordance with the 2018 General Education Program. This is also consistent with the goals of economic development and human resource training of each locality.
Regarding career guidance and orientation, the Department of Education and Training said it will continue to direct specialized departments to pay attention to and strengthen coordination with vocational education units to organize a variety of career guidance activities, to help students have the opportunity to learn about careers and orientations that are suitable to each student's abilities and passions.
The Department of Education and Training plans to advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to add guidance on enrollment in vocational education institutions to the annual primary school enrollment plan. This will make it easier for units to implement career guidance and increase recognition for vocational education institutions among students and society.
