(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The Government and the Prime Minister have held many working sessions with businesses, but this is the first time the Standing Committee of the Government has held a specialized working session specifically with businesses to discuss solutions for national development.
On the morning of September 21st, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting of the Government Standing Committee with major enterprises to discuss solutions contributing to the socio -economic development of the country. Since the beginning of his term, the Government and the Prime Minister have held numerous meetings with domestic and foreign businesses. However, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, this is the first time the Government Standing Committee has held a thematic meeting specifically with businesses. This demonstrates the attention of the Party and State leaders to private enterprises – a crucial driving force of the national economy. The head of the Government stated that the private sector currently contributes approximately 45% of GDP, generates about 30% of state budget revenue, employs about 85% of the workforce, and contributes about 34% of corporate income tax. He also mentioned the contributions of businesses in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and in overcoming difficulties and challenges to restore the economy, ensure major balances, control inflation, and promote growth. Businesses also actively participated in disaster relief and social welfare activities with the tradition of "mutual support" and "national solidarity." The Prime Minister shared that he clearly felt the participation of businesses in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and floods, especially after the recent Super Typhoon Yagi . Emphasizing that "our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today," the Prime Minister said that the country is entering a new phase of transformation, and he hopes that businesses will continue to develop together with the country, with the spirit of "working together, winning together, developing together." Government leaders emphasized the motto "resources originate from thinking, motivation from innovation, and strength from the people and businesses" to express the expectation that businesses will join the whole country in creating breakthroughs in development. The Prime Minister stated that at the 10th Central Committee Conference, the Central Committee discussed breakthrough directions for national development in the coming period, such as institutional breakthroughs, renewing old growth drivers and promoting new growth drivers; building strategic infrastructure projects, symbols of national development such as the North-South high-speed railway; Implementing programs and projects to respond to climate change, such as relocating residents in areas at risk of flash floods and landslides, responding to drought, salinity intrusion, subsidence, and erosion in the Mekong Delta... The country is experiencing a very clear new momentum for development, and private enterprises have a vision and mission to contribute to national development, continuing to pioneer innovation and implement strategic breakthroughs, according to the head of the government. After nearly 40 years of reform, Vietnam, once a backward economy, has risen to become one of the top 40 economies, with a trade volume among the top 20 countries in the world. It is a crucial link in 16 free trade agreements connecting with 60 key economies in the region and globally. The size of Vietnam's economy has increased from US$26.3 billion in the early years of reform to over US$430 billion in 2023. Vietnam is considered by the United Nations and the international community as a shining example of poverty reduction and continuous improvement in the material and spiritual lives of its people. However, the new context also presents new demands for the country's economic development, such as: green and sustainable growth; attracting investment and creating breakthroughs in pioneering industries like semiconductors, AI, and green hydrogen. Growth is based on science and technology , innovation... Therefore, at this Conference, the Standing Committee of the Government wants to hear from businesses about their operational situation, difficulties, obstacles, and proposed solutions. The Standing Committee of the Government will also listen to the thoughts and visions of businesses to jointly find solutions to the country's major challenges, aiming to achieve the goal of making Vietnam a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045.
