On July 26th, commemorating the 78th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27th, 1947 - July 27th, 2025), a delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Trade Union, representing officials, teachers, workers, students, and pupils nationwide, visited the Martyrs' Cemetery at Hill 82, Tan Bien (Tay Ninh) and paid respects to the martyrs of the Education sector who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.

This is also one of the collaborative activities between the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Union to express gratitude and commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the National Ministry of Education (now the Ministry of Education and Training) – a major event for the education sector in 2025.
Visiting the Memorial Monument for Martyrs of the Education Sector, the delegates observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the heroic martyrs, and offered incense at the memorial and at each martyr's grave with heartfelt respect.

More than 50 years ago, following the call of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, generations of teachers set out across the Truong Son Mountains to the South to build a revolutionary education system.
Even during the intense bombing campaign of the war, a revolutionary education system was formed and developed rapidly throughout the South.
Thousands of dedicated educators braved the gunfire to open schools and classes in border regions and even in enemy-occupied areas. In these journeys, many teachers perished, sacrificing their youth for the beautiful springtime of their homeland.

In 1993, at the request of the Liaison Committee of the Southern Education Subcommittee, the Ministry of Education and Training erected a memorial monument to the martyrs of the education sector who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for national liberation.
In early 1994, more than 700 teachers from all over the country who had once crossed the Truong Son Mountains gathered to respectfully pay their respects at the inauguration ceremony and commemorate the souls of the martyrs at the Hill 82 Martyrs' Cemetery (Tan Bien district).
In response to the aspirations of the teaching profession for a more dignified memorial monument befitting the status of education in the new era, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Union launched a charitable activity called "Remembering the Source of the Water You Drink," mobilizing contributions from teachers nationwide.

In February 2004, the memorial monument for martyrs of the Education sector officially commenced construction. The project covers an area of 310 square meters and includes a statue. The monument is inscribed with the names of 625 martyrs, including 115 teachers who went to the South and 510 local teachers.
Every year, leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Education Union, and teachers from all over the country come here to respectfully pay their respects to their comrades who fell for the unification, peace, and freedom of our beloved Fatherland.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Chi expressed her deep emotion at the noble sacrifices of teachers during the resistance war against the US to save the country when she visited the memorial monument for martyrs of the Education sector.
The leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training affirmed: "The immense contributions of the generation of teacher-soldiers, who spared no blood, sweat, or youth to protect the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. The sacrifices of these teachers are shining examples, fostering a tradition of patriotism, and are a source of pride for the education sector."
Also on this occasion, the Vietnam Education Union and Tan Van Education System - Ho Chi Minh City presented gifts to 20 disadvantaged students from Tay Ninh province who have overcome difficulties and strived for success, giving each student 2 million VND and a gift bag from AGAPE Company worth 400,000 VND; and also presented 5 gifts to 5 teachers who have overcome difficulties to teach and excel in their studies.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Education Union presented the teachers with gifts totaling 5 million VND (including 3 million VND from the Vietnam Education Union and 2 million VND from the leadership of Ton Duc Thang University) and a gift bag worth 350,000 VND from Khai Minh Group Joint Stock Company - AGAPE welfare.
