(NLĐO) - Ho Chi Minh City leaders hope that retired generals and senior military officers will contribute even more of their experience to the city's development.
On the afternoon of December 18th, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee held a meeting with retired senior military officers to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024); the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024); and to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to martyr Le Thi Bach Cat.

Upholding the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers"
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that throughout 80 years of fighting, building, and maturing, facing countless harsh challenges, especially before the turning points of the revolution, the Vietnam People's Army has always demonstrated the character of a revolutionary army, originating from the people and fighting for the people.
Alongside the building, fighting, and maturation of the Vietnam People's Army, the armed forces of Ho Chi Minh City have continuously grown stronger, achieving many victories and enriching the revolutionary traditions of the homeland and the nation.

"The 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day are occasions for us to review the glorious history of our nation, to recall the essence and fine traditions, and the glorious achievements of our army and people. Through this, we can enhance patriotism, raise our sense of self-reliance and self-strength, and strive to build a strong national defense system, continuously building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and progressively modern Vietnam People's Army to meet the requirements of the new era," the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City stated that over the past period, the city has always received heartfelt, responsible, and comprehensive contributions in various fields from retired generals and senior military officers, especially valuable experiences in Party building, building a national defense system, a solid defense zone, and a strong city armed forces.
In the coming time, the city hopes that retired generals and senior military officers will contribute even more of their experience to the city's development. They should continue to uphold and promote the noble traditions and qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers," remaining steadfast in politics and ideology; serving as shining examples and inspiring the younger generation to learn from, emulate, and dedicate themselves to building and defending the Fatherland.

Reviewing the positive economic , cultural, and social achievements of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City stated that entering 2025, a year with many events commemorating major national holidays and the organization of Party congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Congress of the Party, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to demonstrate its role as a driving force for national economic growth, while also facing many challenges due to the complex and unpredictable impacts of the global and regional situation.
The city has continued to focus on resolving existing shortcomings, obstacles, and problems, while also responding to new difficulties and challenges.

In this context, Ho Chi Minh City has set the theme for 2025 as: "Focus on streamlining the organizational structure to be lean, efficient, effective, and efficient; accelerate digital transformation; implement Resolution 98 of the National Assembly ; and fundamentally resolve the city's outstanding issues and obstacles."
Along with that, 22 key socio-economic indicators were set, including a target of achieving a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth rate of over 10%. "This is a high target, requiring great effort and determination from the entire political system and the people of the city to achieve it," said the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City stated that to achieve the targets for 2025, it requires all levels of Party committees, government, people, and the entire political system of the city, including cadres and soldiers of the armed forces, to further promote the traditions of the heroic army and the heroic homeland, and focus on implementing a number of key tasks.
On December 20th, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee is expected to hear the proposed plan for reorganizing the city's administrative apparatus, with the aim of implementing it soon.
One of the key tasks is to build an effective and efficient city public service; focusing on restructuring the political system in accordance with the directives of the Central Government.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City stated that this is a particularly important task, requiring a very high level of consensus in terms of understanding, agreement, and strict compliance from leaders, managers, Party members, civil servants, and public employees in the political system; the process of adjusting and rearranging individuals will have some impact, but we must carry it out with the spirit of serving the common good.
"The Standing Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has strictly complied with and promptly implemented this policy of the Central Committee. It is expected that on December 20th, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee will hear the plan for reorganizing the city's administrative apparatus, so that it can be implemented soon," – the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City informed.
The title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces is posthumously awarded to martyr Le Thi Bach Cat.
Within the framework of the gathering, a ceremony was held to posthumously award the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to martyr Le Thi Bach Cat, former District Party Committee member, former Secretary of the District Youth Union, and former Secretary of the Armed Propaganda Party Branch of Districts 2-4 (now District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City sends his most sincere feelings, gratitude, and deep appreciation to the family of martyr Le Thi Bach Cat.
Martyr Le Thi Bach Cat (born October 10, 1940) was born in Nghe An province, a region rich in revolutionary traditions. As a teacher and lecturer, faced with the loss of her country and the destruction of her home, she wrote a "letter of heartfelt plea" to join the South in the fight, participating in the Southwest Ben Cat, Da Lat, and Saigon war zones; organizing propaganda and mobilizing the people and intellectuals to resist the Americans.
In 1967, as a District Party Committee member, Secretary of the District Youth Union, and Secretary of the Armed Propaganda Branch of Districts 2-4, she mobilized the people to rise up and organized the hoisting of the liberation flag in Saigon. During the second phase of the Tet Offensive and Uprising of 1968, she commanded a platoon that fought valiantly and heroically sacrificed itself to preserve the force.
