The World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Quang Ninh province. This heritage site is especially popular with international tourists who love to explore and experience it whenever they visit Vietnam in general, and Quang Ninh in particular. Recognizing the importance of this heritage site to the growth of the tourism industry, immediately after Typhoon No. 3 passed, Quang Ninh province directed relevant departments, agencies, and localities to urgently address the damage caused by the storm to destinations in the bay, especially focusing on environmental sanitation and cleaning up post-storm waste, thereby restoring tourism activities in the bay as soon as possible.
Typhoon No. 3 caused significant damage to destinations in Ha Long Bay. In particular, the amount of debris in the bay was relatively large and complex, including: wrecked ships, pieces of styrofoam buoys, broken aquaculture rafts, fallen trees, and household waste…

Understanding the importance of a clean and green environment in Ha Long Bay for tourism recovery after the storm, the Ha Long Bay Management Board coordinated with relevant units to carry out a three-day intensive cleanup campaign (September 15-17). This involved mobilizing maximum manpower, equipment, and vehicles to collect waste and clean the environment on and along the bay's shores. Each day, the Ha Long Bay Management Board, the Provincial Border Guard Command, Quang Ninh Green Park Joint Stock Company, and organizations and individuals operating tourism services in the bay deployed 30-50 motorboats and ferries with 150-200 officers, staff, and soldiers to collect and transport waste. Waste collection focused on the core area of the Ha Long Bay World Heritage Site, concentrating on tourist attractions along the bay, and then on all waste on the sea surface, at the base of islands, and on beaches.
To support the cleanup of Ha Long Bay, many units, organizations, and individuals have actively participated in cleaning up marine waste. For example, the Provincial Military Command has carried out a concentrated campaign to clean up Ha Long Bay, mobilizing 260 officers and soldiers from various agencies and units, along with equipment and vehicles, to coordinate with the Ha Long Bay Management Board to collect waste on the sea surface, beaches, and the foothills of Ha Long Bay islands. The Provincial Military Command also coordinated with Ha Long City, Cam Pha City, Quang Yen Town, and Van Don District to organize waste collection in the coastal areas of the bay.
To strengthen the forces assisting in the rapid collection of waste in the bay, the Provincial Military Command also requested the Command of Naval Region 1 to direct Brigades 147, 169, and 170 to each mobilize 50 officers and soldiers; and requested the 363rd Air Defense Division to direct Regiment 213 to mobilize 50 officers and soldiers to participate in the intensive campaign to clean up Ha Long Bay.
Along with the armed forces, in recent days, youth union branches at all levels have organized numerous volunteer activities to clean up the environment, responding to the peak campaign to overcome the consequences of typhoon No. 3 in Ha Long City. Over 10,000 youth union members from schools, agencies, administrative units, and businesses participated in cleaning up the environment in Ha Long Beach, Bai Chay Ward, Hon Gai Beach, Hong Ha Ward; along the Tran Quoc Nghien coastal road and other roads and tourist areas in Bai Chay Ward. The activities of Ha Long's youth have contributed to the early stabilization of people's lives and the restoration of business, service, and tourism activities in the area.
In recent days, throughout the streets and neighborhoods of the localities severely damaged by Typhoon No. 3, there has been a flurry of activities and programs to clean up the environment after the storm. With the joint efforts and contributions of many forces, organizations, and individuals in overcoming the aftermath of the storm, Ha Long Bay, a World Heritage Site and natural wonder, will soon regain its original beauty and continue to be a popular tourist destination in Quang Ninh .
