Thinking assessment exam schedule 2026: Hanoi University of Science and Technology opens registration from tomorrow

Hanoi University of Science and Technology opened the registration portal for the first round of the Thinking Assessment (TSA) exam on December 5, lasting until 5:00 p.m. on December 15, with more than 25,000 candidates expected to participate.

According to the plan, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will open the registration portal for the first round of the 2026 Thinking Assessment (TSA) exam tomorrow (December 5). This exam is designed to assess mathematical, reading comprehension and scientific /problem-solving thinking abilities, currently used by more than 50 universities in admissions.

The TSA registration period is from 9am on December 5 to 5pm on December 15 with 25,000 candidates expected to participate. The official exam will take place on January 24-25, 2026.

In 2026, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will organize three rounds of thinking assessment exams, starting from January. Compared to 2025, the timelines in 2026 are postponed by about a week. If you do not take the first round, you can register for the next two rounds, in March and May, with the registration period about a month before the exam date.

The specific schedule for the 2026 thinking assessment exam is as follows:

Phase 1: Exam date January 24 - 25, 2026, registration from December 5 - 15, 2025.

Phase 2: Exam date March 14-15, 2026, registration from February 5-15, 2026.

Phase 3: Exam date May 16-17, 2026, registration from April 5-15, 2026.

The exams all take place on weekends, each session arranges 3-4 exam teams at about 30 exam locations, meeting a maximum of 60,000 exam takers.

The exam remains stable in structure, consisting of 3 sections: Mathematical Thinking (60 minutes), Reading Comprehension (30 minutes) and Scientific Thinking/Problem Solving (60 minutes). These are 3 independent sections, the exam questions will focus on assessing the thinking ability of the candidate in each section, not directly testing the knowledge of any subject.

The test will be in the form of multiple choice tests on computers, and the results will be valid for 2 years for university admission purposes.

In 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology also organized 3 exam sessions, with more than 28,000 candidates and nearly 57,000 exams. The average score of all candidates was 55.23/100. Vu Minh Duc, a 12th grade student of Math 2, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, became the valedictorian with 98.61/100 points, a record of the exam.
