Qatar 3-2 Iran.

Before the tournament, these two teams were not considered top contenders for the championship. Qatar, despite being the defending champions, had declined compared to the tournament five years ago and were the worst-performing Asian team at the 2022 World Cup. Jordan had never won the Asian Cup and their squad was not highly rated.

The Jordan team was in Group E along with South Korea, Bahrain, and Malaysia. They finished third in the group stage and faced Iraq in the Round of 16.

Against the highly-rated Iraqi team, coach Hussein Ammouta devised a sound strategy, leading Jordan to a 3-2 victory. In the quarterfinals, they defeated the "surprise" team Tajikistan 1-0.

The Qatar national team has reached the Asian Cup final for the second consecutive time.

Facing South Korea again in the semi-finals, Jordan continued their impressive form, defeating Jurgen Klinsmann's team 2-0 thanks to goals from Yazan Al Naimat and Musa Al Tamari.

Meanwhile, Qatar's journey to the semi-finals was relatively smooth. They successively overcame Lebanon, Tajikistan, and China in the group stage. Then, Tintin Marquez's team defeated Palestine in the round of 16 and Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals. Their real challenge was Iran in the semi-finals. The defending champions won 3-2 to advance to the final.

The final match was also a showdown between the two teams' top scorers. Akram Afif is aiming for the Golden Boot award at the 2023 Asian Cup with 5 goals, one goal behind the leader Aymen Hussein (Iraq). Jordan's two top scorers are Musa Al Tamari and Yazan Al Naimat, both with 3 goals.

In the past, the two teams have faced each other 9 times. Qatar has a slight advantage with 6 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses.
