Schedule of mock exams for admission to specialized high schools in Hanoi in 2024

Currently, there are 3 high schools that specialize in announcing the 10th grade mock exam schedule to help candidates prepare well for the upcoming entrance exam in June 2024.

Specialized High School for Foreign Languages

The Foreign Language Specialized High School organized three mock exams on January 21st, March 10th, and May 5th. The three subjects included: Foreign Language Proficiency Assessment (English, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, Korean - 90 minutes); Mathematics and Natural Sciences Proficiency Assessment (multiple choice - 55 minutes); and Literature and Social Sciences Proficiency Assessment (multiple choice and essay - 55 minutes).

However, in the first two rounds, the school only organized English exams; in the third round, it organized exams in English, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean.

Each candidate registers for the exam and pays a fee of 45,000 VND/session, including 3 subjects. The fee payment period is divided into 3 periods (period 1 from January 1 to January 12; period 2 from January 1 to February 27; period 3 from January 1 to April 23).

The school also noted that, to facilitate the organization of the exam, comprehensive assessment of candidates' abilities and analysis of results, the exam only accepts candidates who register for all 3 subjects.

In the 2023-2024 school year, the Foreign Language Specialized High School will enroll 500 students in grade 10 (100 students in non-specialized classes). Although the number of applicants is the largest, due to the high quota (315 students), the English class has the lowest competition ratio - 1/6.6.

Next is the Korean class with a competition ratio of 1/10.2. Meanwhile, with a quota of 15 students, the Russian class has a high competition ratio of up to 1/21.3. That means on average, for every 21 candidates, only one student is admitted.

Specialized High School for Natural Sciences

The High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences will organize a mock exam for grade 10 admission in 2024 on January 20-21. On the afternoon of January 20, there will be 2 exams, each lasting 120 minutes, including Math 1 (General Math) and Literature.

Morning of January 21st, Math 2 (Specialized Math) and Biology exam; afternoon of January 21st, Physics and Chemistry exam (all subjects on January 21st will be 150-minute essay exam).

Registration deadline is January 9th. After this time, students/parents cannot register for the exam and the school will not accept direct registration.

The trial exam fee is 150,000 VND/subject. Parents need to transfer money immediately upon registering for the exam by transferring to the school's account. The school plans to hold the second trial exam on March 9-10. The school will announce the specific schedule for the second round later.

In 2023-2024, the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences will enroll a total of 540 students, divided equally into 6 specialized classes, each class has 90 students.

High School for Gifted Students affiliated with the University of Education

The National University of Education High School for the Gifted organizes 3 trial exams on March 3, April 14 and May 12. The registration period is from: January 12 - February 28 (round 1); March 11 - April 10 (round 2); April 15 - May 8 (round 3).

Candidates participate in the mock exam in the following subjects: General Literature; General Mathematics; specialized subjects (Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, English).

Candidates register for the exam in 2 ways: online and directly at the school. Each candidate registers to pay a fee of 450,000 VND/1 exam session (including registration fee and exam fee. The fee will not be refunded if the candidate fails the exam).

In the 2023 academic year, Hanoi University of Education's High School for Gifted Students received 6,113 applications, an increase of 636 candidates compared to 2022. Despite the 6,113 applications, the school only had 315 places available. The specialized English class for 10th graders had a quota of 70 students but received 2,000 applications, resulting in the highest competition ratio of 1:29.
