At this time, garden owners in Xuan Son village are actively taking care of flowers to serve customers in time for the Lunar New Year. According to them, the method of lighting plants at night is a popular technique, so that the flowers do not "sleep" in order to adjust the growth of the plants according to the growers' wishes.
Keeping the lights on all night helps the flower plant continuously receive energy from light for photosynthesis, grow quickly, and have a straight stem.
Having been in the profession for over 15 years, Mr. Truong Huu Phuong (Xuan Son village) said that this season his family planted 540 m2 of Tet flowers, mainly chrysanthemums. The weather at the end of the year is erratic, so farmers have to constantly take care of the flowers, monitor the growth of the plants, adjust the light, water, and nutrition to make the flowers bloom on time.
Mr. Phuong shared that in recent years, after 3-5 days of planting flowers, he started hanging light bulbs to stimulate the flowers to grow as desired. This method also helps warm the flowers when the weather turns cold.
For this year’s Tet flower crop, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Xuan’s family (Xuan Son village) planted 25,000 chrysanthemums of various types. Three days after planting, the family hung light bulbs to stimulate the flowers to grow.
“Many years of experience in growing flowers shows that using light bulbs helps flowers grow well, with fewer pests and diseases, and larger flowers. When the flowers reach the bud stage, turn off the light bulbs so the plants bloom in time for Tet,” said Ms. Xuan.

Flower growing is a seasonal profession. During the Lunar New Year season, growers often “eat and sleep” with flowers, hoping for a good harvest and high prices to welcome a warm and prosperous spring.
Mr. Duong Cong Hoa - Head of Xuan Son village said that the flower growing profession in the locality has existed for a long time. From small-scale cultivation in some households, now there are more than 50 households growing flowers. In particular, the experience of people in flower growing has also been improved, actively applying scientific and technical advances in production, so the quality and economic value of each flower crop has also been increasingly improved. In particular, in recent years, the chrysanthemum market has been quite stable, bringing a good income to people every time Tet comes and spring comes.
