In the Traditional Room of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, where many images and mementos of his former student Nguyen Phu Trong are preserved, teacher Le Trung Kien recounts in detail the events associated with each photograph kept by the school. Among them are numerous images of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his visits, his emotional encounters with former teachers, and his kind inquiries about the school's students. There are also many photos of school activities linked to memories with the General Secretary. Particularly noteworthy is the notebook containing the teachers' comments upon Nguyen Phu Trong's graduation after three years of study (classes 8B, 9B, and 10B from 1960 to 1962). "Rated Excellent. Excellent in all subjects. Diligent in studying. Enthusiastic in work. Responsible in his work. Made many contributions to building a good collective. Good character, good attitude towards teachers and friends. Commendable." And those words resonated throughout the life of a great personality, an exemplary leader, who dedicated his entire life to the cause of the Party and the State, yet was also remarkably simple and approachable, earning the respect and trust of the people.

According to the Principal's account, during his visit to the school to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Nguyen Gia Thieu School (1950-2020), the General Secretary left behind a feeling of affection and admiration not only through his sincere feelings for the teachers and former classmates, and his heartfelt advice to the teachers and students, but also through the thoughtful and profound nature of a great personality. This was evident when he spoke with his former teacher, Mr. Le Duc Giang, former Party Secretary and homeroom teacher of class 10B. The General Secretary fondly recalled many memories and, when inquiring about his former homeroom teacher's family, addressed him in a very familiar and intimate way, yet still showing respect for his teacher, asking, "Teacher, how is your wife?" Similarly, when asking about the children of his former teacher, the General Secretary acted like an older brother, "Teacher, how are they?" The way he addressed him showed a close and affectionate relationship, always respecting and loving his teacher.

Also during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Nguyen Gia Thieu School (1950 - 2020), General Secretary and then President Nguyen Phu Trong stated: “I am very happy, excited, and proud of the achievements that the school has made over the past 70 years. Compared to the time when we studied there, our school is now much more spacious, cleaner, larger in scale, and has more convenient, civilized, modern, and complete learning conditions and facilities; the level and quality of education and training are increasingly higher and better.” The General Secretary and President expressed confidence that, with its 70-year tradition of building, developing, and maturing, and with the many achievements and experiences accumulated, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School will continue to develop, strive, and progress, achieving even greater and better results in the future, meeting the increasingly higher and more challenging demands, worthy of its tradition, worthy of the name Nguyen Gia Thieu, worthy of the trust and confidence of the Party, the State, and the people in general, and of Hanoi in particular, contributing to the construction and protection of the capital and the country.

Bearing in mind the General Secretary's instructions, over the years, the teachers and students of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School have always strived to excel, consistently ranking among the top-quality schools in Hanoi, making significant contributions to the reform of the high school curriculum and textbooks, and the innovation of teaching methods. The quality of teaching and learning has continuously improved, with many teachers winning high awards in Hanoi's excellent teacher competitions; the school's team of outstanding students consistently ranks among the top non-specialized schools in the city, with students winning national awards in the excellent student competition every year. Comprehensive educational activities have also been implemented effectively, affirming the school's position in the education and training sector of Hanoi and the entire country. Notably, in the recent high school graduation exam, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School had the top scorer nationwide, Nguyen Ha Nhi, a student from class 12D1, with a total score of 57.85 points, including three perfect scores of 10 in the social science combined exam (history, geography, civics).

In recent days, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School has been flying flags at half-mast to commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a former student of the school.

Besides its high academic achievements, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School is also known for its holistic education, fostering students in life skills, legal knowledge, respect for teachers, and the will to overcome difficulties and excel in their studies. In particular, the school places great importance on traditional education in its curriculum. From the 10th grade onwards, students are introduced to the school's history and traditions, especially the stories of outstanding former students who now hold important positions, and alumni who have made significant contributions to the overall development of the capital and the country. According to Mr. Le Trung Kien, the principal of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, the school's curriculum will undoubtedly delve deeper and more strongly into the humanistic values, lifestyle, and revolutionary spirit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Also during the past school year, the school admitted five more students into the Party (in the previous school year, the school also had two students who had the honor of joining the Party). This helps future generations of students develop their character and qualities, always upholding traditions and internalizing the teachings, encouragement, and messages of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the development of the Capital and the country.

 

Nguyen Gia Thieu School (now Nguyen Gia Thieu High School) was established in 1950, with its first campus located in Lac Tho village, Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province. In 1951, the school moved to its current location at 27, alley 298, Ngoc Lam street, Long Bien district, Hanoi.

Welcoming the General Secretary and President to the 70th anniversary of its founding in 2020 was also an occasion when the school was honored to receive the Third-Class Independence Order from the State, marking the fifth time the school has been awarded this prestigious honor.
