As the lead agency for the E&E Consortium collaboration between Malaysian universities and industry, USM leads a number of semiconductor workforce development programs, tailored to meet the ever-changing needs of the electrical and electronics sector. The Keysight-USM collaboration is built on a shared commitment to preparing students for the job market.

The MoU officially saw USM deploy Keysight’s Fundamentals of Semiconductor Design and Measurement Lab, a comprehensive application-oriented platform designed to equip students with practical design and measurement skills and hands-on knowledge of semiconductor technologies. The collaboration also paves the way for the co-expansion of the lab’s content and future deployment of Keysight’s latest Advanced Semiconductor Measurement Lab, which will help build a curriculum that aligns with the latest industry practices.

This initiative comes at a critical time as educational institutions strive to align their curricula with the needs of the semiconductor industry. Having access to advanced instrumentation and real-world workflows will help graduates confidently take on critical jobs. Keysight’s rapid deployment lab modules are designed to support this transition, bringing professional tools, design, simulation, and measurement techniques to the classroom to prepare a future-ready workforce.

This partnership project complements and enhances USM’s work in the “Penang Silicon Design @5km+” project, which aims to build an IC and AI design ecosystem within a 5-km radius of the Bayan Lepas industrial estate.

In the future, Keysight will host a photonics technology workshop and showcase Keysight's Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICS) Lab. This advanced lab module introduces students to photonics technology - a technology essential for next-generation innovations in data centers, quantum computing, and AI.
