After 7 years of implementing the transformation according to the 2012 Cooperative Law, the Diep Nong Agricultural Service Cooperative has continuously strived and achieved positive results in production and business activities, increasing income for its members.
The cooperative currently has 5,038 members with a total agricultural land area of 504 hectares, including: 337 hectares of land for double-cropping rice, 110 hectares of land for specialized vegetable crops, and 35 hectares of land for perennial crops within residential areas...
Recognizing that developing commercial agricultural production is a key focus in increasing farmers' income, the cooperative has organized the planning of planting areas for rice, vegetables, and winter crops on double-cropped rice land and other arable land according to crop structure, and signed contracts with businesses to guarantee the purchase of agricultural products from its members.
Diep Nong (Hung Ha, Thai Binh ) is a locality with a thriving seedling production movement that yields high economic returns.
With its large riverside land area and favorable geographical location for transporting and trading goods, along with its diligent, creative, and experienced members and the guidance and support from all levels, the cooperative has boldly transformed its crop structure, introducing new crops with high economic value into production, and implementing production linkages and product consumption agreements with businesses, initially yielding positive results. Since 2014, the cooperative has partnered with businesses to produce sweet corn, peanuts, millet, cucumbers, carrots, etc., covering 150 hectares in the spring season, 130 hectares in the summer season, and 300 hectares in the winter season.
Mr. Khuong Minh Duyen, Director of the Cooperative, said: "In recent years, the Cooperative has strengthened its leadership, guidance, and direction of the people in implementing the production plan. In addition, we have consistently focused on training, transferring scientific and technical knowledge, reinforcing field and plot embankments, important irrigation works, and ensuring sufficient rice seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides are supplied to the people in a timely manner."
From 2020 to 2023, the cooperative excavated and filled 25,667 cubic meters of irrigation canals, cleared 45,000 meters of waterways, and built 1,400 meters of field ditches with a total cost of nearly 3.9 billion VND. They also installed 80 culverts of various types for water distribution and concreted 3,150 meters of field roads according to new rural development criteria.
The Diep Nong Agricultural Service Cooperative (Hung Ha, Thai Binh) is building an OCOP brand for its local red peanuts.
Each year, the cooperative supplies 4 tons of plant seeds and 22 tons of various fertilizers; effectively carries out field sanitation; closely supervises plant protection work; maintains a rice cultivation area of 337 hectares, with a stable rice yield of 13 tons/hectare/year.
As a locality with a long tradition in winter crop production, reaching an area of 370 hectares per year, the cooperative annually develops plans, assigns targets to villages, and provides support mechanisms for new crops such as assistance with land preparation for potato cultivation, partial support for vegetable soybean seeds, etc., thereby promoting the movement to be more successful each year than the previous year.
The cooperative also focuses on developing the livestock sector in the direction of farms and family farms, with a focus on biosafety. Currently, the commune has 77 farms and family farms, with a total pig herd of nearly 11,000, poultry of 46,000, buffalo and cattle of 369, and 50 hectares of aquaculture.
Taking advantage of its location along the Luoc River, Diep Nong has developed a cage fish farming model with 5 households and 150 cages, yielding high efficiency. The cooperative is building an OCOP brand for red peanuts – a local crop with competitive advantages – thereby promoting production, processing, and consumption, creating more jobs for people in the commune.
In addition to the three mandatory services, the cooperative is providing four other services: rodent control, veterinary services, product distribution and sales, and land preparation and machine planting. In 2023, the cooperative's revenue reached 2 billion VND, and its profit exceeded 130 million VND.
Mr. Khuong Minh Duyen, Director of the Cooperative, shared: "The 2024 Cooperative Star Award is a recognition by the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance of the cooperative's contributions to the economic development of the locality in particular and the development of the collective economy in general."
In the coming period, the cooperative will continue to expand the cultivation of high-value commercial crops through consumption linkages, striving for 70% of its cultivated area (sweet corn, millet, carrots) to have signed product consumption contracts with purchasing teams and businesses. It will focus on promoting mechanization in land preparation, furrowing, planting, and pesticide spraying; and applying sprinkler and drip irrigation technologies in crop cultivation.
