The Swiss Federal Council announced on December 4th that Air Force Commander, Major General Peter Merz, had visited Ramstein Air Base in Germany to discuss cooperation related to the F-35 fighter jet, along with several generals from European countries.
The purpose of the trip was to exchange experiences on the process of operating modern American fighter jets.
Last September, this European country reached an agreement with the US to purchase 36 F-35A aircraft, with delivery expected between 2027 and 2030.
In a recent article, 19FortyFive stated that the F-35 is the "best fighter jet in the world ".
The F-35 is designed to do things that no single aircraft can do. It was developed to replace the US Air Force's A-10 attack aircraft and F-16 fighter jet, the Navy's F/A-18 fighter jet, and the Marine Corps' AV-8B Harrier.
The F-35 fighter jet is a single-engine, single-seat aircraft. Its unique feature lies in the fact that different versions are designed to serve different purposes.
For example, the F-35A variant has conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) capabilities, intended for traditional air bases. Meanwhile, the F-35C is a carrier-based version designed for the Navy.
The F-35B used by the US Marine Corps, the Royal Air Force, and the Royal Navy can operate as a short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) fighter aircraft.
The F-35 is currently the "backbone" of the air forces of many of America's allies, including the UK, Australia, Italy, Japan, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, and South Korea.
In addition, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Poland, Thailand, and others have also placed orders or expressed interest in this fighter jet.
