Hanoi will not hold a fireworks display to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi: Changes in scale and cancellation of many activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi.

The Hanoi Party Committee has decided to cancel fireworks displays in all 30 districts, towns, and communes during the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi, in order to focus resources on overcoming the consequences of Typhoon Yagi. Politburo member, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, and Head of the Hanoi National Assembly Delegation, Bui Thi Minh Hoai, emphasized that this decision stems from solidarity with the people, demonstrating the responsibility of the capital city and the spirit of "Hanoi for the whole country, together with the whole country."

According to writer Nguyen Bac Son, Director of the East-West Cultural and Language Center, the decision by Hanoi city leaders to halt the fireworks display is "a decision that is in line with public sentiment and full of responsibility in the face of the suffering after the storms and floods." This decision not only demonstrates a spirit of mutual support but also a manifestation of solidarity.

"That spirit of solidarity and unity is not only a fine tradition but also a strength that enables the country to overcome current difficulties and challenges," said writer Nguyen Bac Son.

The Director of the East-West Language and Culture Center added that this decision might be regrettable for some, but prioritizing disaster relief is necessary and reasonable in the current context. Writer Nguyen Bac Son hopes that after the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi is resolved, cultural and artistic activities will be organized to create memorable experiences for locals and tourists.

“The storms and floods are still here, the suffering is still there… everything remains, etched in the hearts of every person in the flooded areas… Therefore, more than ever, we should stop these events and emotions that may be temporary to compensate for some of the pain of our compatriots, and to focus on them. There may be many different opinions, but I believe that the decision to stop the fireworks display made by the leaders of Hanoi is correct. Hanoi always looks towards the whole country, and the whole country always looks towards Hanoi. That is the unity and solidarity that has been nurtured for thousands of years, reflecting the fine traditions of our nation,” Mr. Son affirmed.

On social media forums, many people commented that Hanoi has had many occasions to celebrate major historical events with fireworks displays, and the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital will certainly be one of those memorable events. However, suspending this activity to prioritize resources and morale for disaster relief is an extremely correct decision. The aftermath of Typhoon Yagi has left behind significant damage to both lives and property, requiring the concerted efforts of the entire political system and the people to overcome the difficulties.

At this time, empathy for the victims of the natural disaster and a focus on relief efforts are paramount. The decision to cancel the fireworks display not only demonstrates the government's solidarity with the people's losses and suffering, but also reflects its responsibility to its citizens. The resources saved will be used more effectively in addressing the aftermath of the storm and floods, helping people to stabilize their lives as soon as possible.

This decision also shows that the Hanoi City Party Committee has listened to and understood the thoughts and aspirations of the people. In the context of natural disasters causing much loss, focusing on practical actions instead of formal activities is what the people expect. This is a testament to close leadership that always puts the interests of the people first.

In the future, Hanoi will still have many opportunities to host major events to honor the glorious history and traditions of the capital. However, at this time, unity and cooperation in overcoming difficulties are more important than anything else. And the decision to cancel the fireworks display on this occasion affirms that Hanoi is not only a city rich in cultural traditions, but also a city of compassion and sharing.

The decision to cancel the fireworks display, therefore, not only pleased the people but also affirmed the responsible leadership role of the Hanoi City Party Committee during this difficult time. The people of Hanoi will surely feel proud of this choice, as the government has prioritized the common good and the safety of the community.

More than half a century has passed, but October 10, 1954, remains a historic day deeply etched in the hearts of every citizen of Hanoi. It is a brilliant milestone marking the complete defeat of French colonialism in Vietnam, ushering in a new era of development for the capital and the country.

Countless memories and recollections of war remain, along with pain and loss, but also the heroism of the indomitable people who made history. Hanoi, having suffered greatly from the war, is now developing day by day. The capital, a convergence of excellence, consistently holds a leading position in the country, rightfully serving as the political, administrative, economic, cultural, educational, and scientific-technological center of the nation, and continues to strive for regional and international prominence.

The anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi on October 10, 2024, will be an occasion to recall the glorious historical traditions, so that every citizen will forever remember history, remember the people who bravely sacrificed themselves for the peaceful city, a city of "a thousand years of civilization".
