83% of Vietnamese travelers prefer to travel on weekends to make the most of this year's New Year holiday. The latest search data from Booking.com just released shows that domestic destinations continue to be the choice for the year-end holidays of the majority of Vietnamese travelers.
According to Booking.com's Travel Trends 2025 Report, up to 69% of Vietnamese people choose to travel domestically; of which, 42% of survey participants said they like to go to familiar places, and 37% appreciate the convenience of choosing a destination that takes less travel time, said Branavan Aruljothi, Country Manager for Vietnam.
In addition to the common reasons above, 45% of travelers shared that they are willing to participate in local festivals on their journey. These factors contribute to explaining why familiar destinations are always the top choice in the year-end holiday plans of many Vietnamese people.
Accordingly, Phu Quoc leads the list of most searched destinations by Vietnamese tourists (up 86% compared to the same period last year). Following are vibrant cities with many special events and celebrations: Da Lat, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau. Hoi An and Sa Pa attract tourists who want to immerse themselves in local culture and the typical festival atmosphere.

Search data is based on searches by users in Vietnam from October 1 to November 15, 2025, for check-in dates from December 20, 2025 to January 5, 2026.
Branavan Aruljothi, Country Manager for Vietnam at Booking.com, commented: “ Year-end travel is the ideal time for many people to relax, enjoy the festive atmosphere and spend time with loved ones. Our search data shows that Vietnamese travelers are prioritizing exploring familiar domestic destinations while also choosing short breaks in neighboring countries in the Asia -Pacific region. They are looking for itineraries that offer convenience, familiarity, or new cultural and festival experiences .”
Short breaks abroad are also becoming increasingly popular as the year-end holidays approach, with nearly 30% of Vietnamese planning to spend 1-4 nights abroad, and another 29% considering a 5-7 night holiday, said Branavan Aruljothi.
Bangkok, Tokyo and Seoul top the list of international destinations most searched by Vietnamese people this holiday season. Each city has its own charm. Bangkok is bustling with a series of year-end events, while Tokyo and Seoul attract tourists with their unique festival atmosphere. For those who want to enjoy a longer holiday, Sydney and Paris become the top choices.
Sydney remains a popular destination during the festive season, highlighted by New Year's Eve celebrations and spectacular fireworks displays at the Harbour Bridge. Meanwhile, the City of Light, Paris - the city with the highest search growth among the 10 international destinations with more than 51% compared to the same period last year - attracts visitors thanks to its vibrant Christmas activities.

Notably, in Booking.com's survey results, international tourists choose to come to Vietnam because of its diverse cultural and entertainment experiences.
According to Mr. Branavan Aruljothi, search data of international tourists during the long holiday at the end of the year (from December 20, 2025 to January 4, 2026), besides the two major urban gateways of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the top searched locations also include coastal and island areas such as Phu Quoc, Da Nang and Nha Trang, ancient cities such as Hoi An, and mountainous and highland areas such as Sa Pa and Da Lat./.
