“Sunshine on the Mountain” spreads the spirit of confidence and mastery of life of ethnic minority women and children

The media event “Sunshine on the Mountain” was recently organized by the Vietnam Women’s Museum at Bac Ha Secondary and High School, Bac Ha District, Lao Cai Province to arouse and encourage the spirit of overcoming difficulties and pursuing dreams of students; spreading the message “Ethnic minority women should confidently take control of their lives”.

The event took place today (October 31) and attracted the participation of more than 600 students and teachers of Bac Ha Secondary and High School. Within the framework of the event, the exchange program "Shine Confidently" took place with the presence of 2 young ethnic minority people with their stories of "breaking through prejudices", striving to shine, spreading positive energy among young people and the community.

They are Sung Thi So (Mong ethnic group, Yen Bai province) currently working at a law firm in Hanoi and H'Nen Nie (Ede ethnic group, Dak Lak province) currently a student at the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Exchange program "Shine Confidently" with 2 young ethnic minority people and the story of "breaking down prejudices"

Within the framework of the event, the exhibition “My Dream” was held by the Vietnam Women’s Museum. The exhibition is about stories and sharing about the journey of women and children in the highlands overcoming gender barriers and mastering themselves through many effective activities of Project 8. In particular, the model “Leaders of Change” was established in schools in Lao Cai, Gia Lai, Dien Bien, Quang Binh and many other localities across the country…

The picture of the reality, barriers, dreams and aspirations of ethnic minority students at Bac Ha Secondary and High School (Bac Ha district, Lao Cai) and Phan Boi Chau Secondary School (Chu-Puh district, Gia Lai province) in the exhibition carries a strong message, calling for the joint efforts to accompany women and children of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in the journey to eliminate gender barriers to affirm their position in the family and society.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum, spoke at the event.

Through the images and stories in the exhibition, the public saw that Project 8 has begun to bring positive impacts to the lives of women and children in ethnic minority areas, mountainous areas, and remote areas in particular. At the same time, they strongly felt the profound change in the awareness, thoughts and actions of women from the family to society in general.

Sharing about the event “Sunshine on the Mountain”, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Director of the Vietnam Women’s Museum expressed: “The recent storm No. 3 Yagi has had a significant impact on the lives and activities of our compatriots, residents and especially the schooling of students, including those at Bac Ha Secondary and High School. However, in those difficult moments, the spirit of solidarity and resilience of the entire political system, community, teachers and students of Bac Ha School were demonstrated and promoted more strongly and clearly than ever”.

The event “Sunshine on the Mountain” organized by the Vietnam Women’s Museum, Forever 20 Club, and Soldiers’ Heart Club is an activity within the framework of Component Project No. 8 “Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children” chaired by the Vietnam Women’s Union, in coordination with relevant ministries and functional agencies.
