According to Tuoi Tre Online , many sections of Binh Quoi Street are still submerged in murky water due to high tides. Many households living along the Saigon River have struggled for the past three days to cope with the prolonged flooding.
Mrs. Chin’s house - one of the houses located close to the riverbank, was flooded strongly since October 24, and is still knee-deep. Common areas such as the kitchen and living room are submerged in water, making cooking and resting almost impossible.
The family had to install pumps and pipes to pump out the water, but only dared to use them when the water level rose too high because it consumed a lot of fuel. A family member shared: "All the houses in this area suffered equally severe damage."
Not far away, another household said that although they had proactively used sandbags, soil and barriers to block the water early, the strong tide had made all efforts unsuccessful. "It's been a long time since the flooding was this bad," he sighed.
Ms. Kim, another resident on Binh Quoi Street, was still limping because in the high flood water, she could not see the path clearly and stepped on a piece of tin, injuring her foot. "I just hope the water recedes quickly so I can clean up my house. It's so miserable if it keeps flooding like this."
At Binh Quoi tourist area, the water is still deep even though a new high tide is approaching. The entire resort area is heavily flooded because the tide has pushed down a wall of a nearby canal.
At the end of Binh Quoi Street (Binh Quoi Ward), a water pump is currently installed and pipes are placed across the street.
Authorities are diverting vehicles to other branches to avoid disrupting pumping and water extraction and to avoid people entering heavily flooded areas.
Over the past two days, the People's Committee of Binh Quoi Ward has mobilized forces and equipment to support people in coping with high tides.
During peak tide hours, militia forces are assigned to be on duty in the area to help people build sandbags at overflowing areas and raise furniture to prevent damage.
