Officers and soldiers of the 5th Naval Region organized the care of trees, flowerbeds, and ornamental plants to beautify the unit's landscape. At the same time, they coordinated with youth union members, armed forces, and local people to conduct a general environmental cleanup, clearing bushes, unclogging drains, trimming trees obstructing visibility, cleaning beaches and roads, removing illegal advertisements, flyers, and leaflets that detract from urban aesthetics; and collecting and sorting waste for processing.
On this occasion, officers and soldiers of the 5th Naval Region also coordinated with local youth organizations and other forces to promote and encourage people to reduce the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic products; raise awareness of responsibility in forest fire prevention and control during the dry season; and practice civilized urban living, avoiding encroachment on sidewalks and roads, and improper discharge of wastewater and waste to protect the environment and public health.
Colonel Tang Ngoc Thach, Deputy Head of Political Affairs of Naval Region 5, said: “The ‘Volunteer Saturday’ is part of a series of activities in response to the ‘Youth Month’ 2025 of Naval Region 5, aiming to propagate and educate officers, soldiers and people of all walks of life in the area to raise awareness and responsibility in maintaining hygiene and protecting the environment. At the same time, it promotes the pioneering and volunteer spirit of young people in building new rural areas and civilized urban areas.”
After a day of intensive work, officers and soldiers of the 5th Naval Region cleaned more than 5 km of coastline and roads; collected and sorted nearly 7 tons of waste for processing.
