Specifically, on December 9 local time (ie 15:08 on the same day in Vietnam), at the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of 2003 held in New Delhi (India), the heritage of "Dong Ho folk painting craft" of Bac Ninh province was officially listed by the Organization for Science, Education and Culture (UNESCO) on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. This is the 17th intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam to be honored by UNESCO.

"Dong Ho folk painting craft" on the List of Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding demonstrates the international community's appreciation for the unique, historical values and profound humanistic significance of the folk painting genre that has been associated with the cultural life of the Vietnamese people for hundreds of years, and is also a timely recognition of a heritage that is facing a high risk of being lost.
Dong Ho folk paintings showcase the knowledge and sophisticated woodblock printing techniques, with natural colors, vividly reflecting the life, customs, and aspirations of the Vietnamese people. This recognition has immense significance for the heritage-owning community in particular and for the people of Bac Ninh in general.
