With Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Thai fans are always proud that their country owns one of the best stars in professional sports .
At the age of 24, Kunlavut has won almost all the noble titles in his career, with 1 world men's singles championship (2023), 1 Olympic silver medal, and has climbed to the world number one position.
It is not an exaggeration to say that Kunlavut is the star with the "number one brand" of Thai sports at present. Over the past year, the Thai sports community has determined that Kunlavut will be the athlete who will shoulder the responsibility of winning the men's singles gold medal, as well as the men's team gold medal for Thai badminton.
However, Kunlavut recently gave "unhappy" news to his domestic fans, saying that he will most likely not recover 100% of his physical strength to compete in the men's singles matches at the 33rd SEA Games.
And the reason Kunlavut gave was unbelievable, it was because of... toothache. Siam Sports newspaper quoted the announcement of this talented badminton player:
"I will compete in the team event at the SEA Games. But I will most likely not participate in the individual event because my physical fitness is not yet 100%. Right now I am only about 70-80%, because I just had wisdom tooth surgery," Kunlavut said.
Although the 24-year-old tennis player has not completely given up on the men's singles event, Thai media believe that with this announcement, Kunlavut will only compete in the team event at the SEA Games.
Badminton at the 33rd SEA Games will end on December 14, and just 3 days later Kunlavut will start competing in the World Tour Finals - a tournament dubbed the "final of the year" of the top badminton world.
Therefore, once it is determined that he has not fully recovered, Kunlavut will likely drop out of the men's singles event at the SEA Games to focus on the more prestigious tournament.
This is truly regrettable news at SEA Games 33, for many badminton fans, not just Thai fans.
