More than 2 years ago, when many pig farmers were looking for ways to change production due to the impact of the epidemic, the cost of feed and breeding animals increased, Ms. Duong made a bold decision to go against the majority. Borrowing nearly 3 billion VND to invest in completing the system of barns and breeding animals and switching from small-scale pig farming to large-scale pig farming according to a closed process, ensuring bio-safety helped her family win big.
Switching from small-scale pig farming to large-scale, closed-loop pig farming, ensuring biosafety, has helped Ms. Duong's family win big.
Ms. Duong Thi Duong, Ma 2 village, Yen Son commune, Bao Yen district shared: "When raising livestock, there are many epidemics. Around the houses and farms 10 meters away from my house, there are individual families raising livestock that also have their entire barns infected, but my family is not infected because I use biosafety measures."
Implementing a closed-cycle farming system, Ms. Duong invested in raising 30 sows. Along with fully vaccinating the livestock as recommended, proactively having local breeding pigs also contributes to minimizing the spread of pathogens. Thanks to that, the herd of pigs always develops stably, selling 2 litters of about 800 pigs each year, after deducting expenses, the profit is about 2.5 billion VND.
Every year, Ms. Duong sells about 800 pigs in 2 batches, after deducting expenses, her profit is about 2.5 billion VND.
Ms. Duong added: “There were times when I worked for nothing, but I was not discouraged, because whatever you do, you have to persevere to make a profit. From mid-2024 until now, the price of pigs has been very good. My family produces the breeds themselves, my family gets the feed from the factory, I make a profit of about 3 million for each pig.”
Mr. Phan Thanh Giang, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Yen Son Commune, Bao Yen District, said: "Since she boldly borrowed capital from the Social Policy Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to invest in and build more than 1,000 m2 of closed barns, her livestock farming has been very effective."
Active in economic development, Ms. Duong is not only honored to be a member of the provincial-level excellent farmer and business association, but also contributes to spreading and creating motivation for many women in the village and commune to be more confident and bold in changing their thinking about production and economic development, contributing to promoting the goal of sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.
