The creator of "the world's best rice" becomes Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development

(Dan Tri) - Dr. Tran Tan Phuong - Director of the Agricultural Seed Center has just been appointed by the People's Committee of Soc Trang province to hold the position of Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Soc Trang province.

Dr. Tran Tan Phuong is one of the three members who created the ST25 rice variety, which recently won first prize in the " World's Best Rice" contest 2019 held in the Philippines.

At the decision-giving ceremony on May 25, Vice Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee Le Van Hieu congratulated Dr. Tran Tan Phuong on being appointed as Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Soc Trang province.

Mr. Hieu also highly appreciated the efforts and contributions of Dr. Tran Tan Phuong to the agricultural sector of Soc Trang province. At the same time, he hoped that in the coming time, Dr. Phuong would continue to promote his own experience to perform well the assigned tasks, further developing the agricultural sector.

As Dan Tri reported, the "World's Best Rice of the Year" contest in 2019 was held within the framework of the 11th World Rice Trade Conference in the Philippines from November 10 to 13, 2019, with the participation of more than 20 international and Vietnamese rice trading enterprises and hundreds of major rice importers and exporters in the world.

As a result, ST25 rice of Ho Quang enterprise (Soc Trang) has excellently surpassed Thai rice, winning first prize in the "World's Best Rice" contest in 2019.

ST25 rice variety was researched and bred by a group of engineers Ho Quang Cua, Dr. Tran Tan Phuong and Master Nguyen Thi Thu Huong. This is a short-term rice variety, more disease-resistant than some traditional rice varieties, with a yield of up to 7 tons/ha. ST25 rice has the characteristics of very white rice, white and very natural rice, and is favored by consumers.
