Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade plans to allocate a maximum of 20% of its enrollment quota to admission based on academic transcripts in the 2025 admissions season, a 10% reduction compared to 2024.
Explaining the reduction in enrollment quotas, Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of the school's Admissions and Communications Center, said that the academic transcript scores of public and private high schools are often inconsistent, with a large difference. "This leads to unfairness in the admissions process," Mr. Son said.
In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will allocate 50-60% of its enrollment quota based on high school graduation exam scores. The remaining quota will be filled based on the competency assessment scores of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.
Regarding the admission combinations, the university plans to use no more than 4 combinations per major, with Mathematics being the main subject. However, for Economic Law, English Language, and Chinese Language, Literature will be the main subject. Informatics may be included in the admission combinations for Information Technology, Information Security, and Data Science majors.

From 2024 onwards, the National Economics University will no longer consider high school transcripts for admissions. According to Associate Professor Bui Duc Trieu, Head of the Training Management Department, the university's stance is to gradually reduce its reliance on high school results in admissions.
"Over the years, the school has found that most high-achieving students in specialized schools (those eligible for admission based on academic transcripts) are also eligible for admission based on international certificates or individual exam scores. Therefore, eliminating the academic transcript review will reduce the rate of 'ghost' admissions, as a candidate can use multiple methods," Mr. Trieu said.
In 2025, the National Economics University plans to maintain the same three admission methods as in 2024, including: direct admission (2%); combined admission (83%); and admission based on the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam (15%, a decrease of 3% compared to 2024).
For the 2025 high school graduation exam results, the National Economics University will only use 4 subject combinations: A00 (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Mathematics, Physics, English), D01 (Mathematics, Literature, English), and D07 (Mathematics, Chemistry, English) instead of 9 combinations as in 2024.
This year's 12th-grade students are the first group of candidates to participate in the 2025 high school graduation exam under the new general education program. Candidates will take 4 subjects instead of 6 as before.
The two compulsory subjects are Mathematics and Literature; the two elective subjects are chosen from the following: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Literature, Geography, History, Economics and Law Education, Informatics, Technology, and Foreign Languages (English, German, Russian, Japanese, French, Chinese, Korean). In total, there are 36 subject combinations for the high school graduation exam.
The Literature exam will still be in essay format with a time limit of 120 minutes. The remaining subjects will be in multiple-choice format, with Mathematics having a time limit of 90 minutes and the others 50 minutes.
The exam is held nationwide using a common set of questions, a common exam period, and at the same time as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training .
