Efforts to save the life of a patient in critical condition with severe pneumonia

Patient Hoang Van H., 30 years old, is the main breadwinner of a poor family in Dong Di village, Kien Thiet commune, Yen Son, one of the poorest communes in Tuyen Quang province. His wife is currently unemployed, and he has two young children.

His family's already difficult life became more serious when more than 2 weeks ago, he suddenly had a high fever, difficulty breathing and coughing up blood.

Mr. Hoat was admitted to Tuyen Quang Provincial General Hospital and then immediately transferred to the Central Lung Hospital with an extremely critical diagnosis: respiratory failure, septic shock, coughing up blood, severe pneumonia complicated by ARDS and acute kidney failure.

With very low blood oxygen parameters while on maximum ventilatory support, survival prognosis is only in hours.

The patient's life is in critical condition due to severe complications of pneumonia.

The on-duty team at the Central Lung Hospital immediately deployed ECMO and continuous blood filtration techniques along with other special care measures in a very short time. However, the cost of resuscitation techniques for critically ill patients is quite high, beyond the ability of the patient's family to pay.

The application of the most advanced techniques by the medical team has given the patient a chance to live. After 10 days of treatment, the patient was able to breathe room air on his own, his respiratory index was stable and he was discharged from the hospital on October 10, 2024.

In addition to the hospital's efforts, thanks to the support and appeal of the Department of Social Work and Communications, philanthropists have joined hands to help his family overcome difficulties and feel secure during treatment.
