Taking advantage of favorable weather, many households in Thien Cam commune went to the fields to harvest summer-autumn rice from early morning. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Bong (Nam Thanh village) just loaded bags of rice onto a tractor and shared: "My family grows more than 3 hectares of rice, all affected by storms No. 5 and No. 6. We are harvesting early to limit damage." Many areas were flooded and collapsed, so people temporarily postponed their holidays and stopped all activities to go to the fields. Thanks to favorable weather and the support of modern machinery, the harvested area in Thien Cam continuously increased rapidly in the first days of September. Mr. Hoang Kim Tuy - Head of Economic Department, People's Committee of Thien Cam commune said: In the summer-autumn crop, the whole commune planted more than 1,200 hectares, many areas were damaged by storms. The locality mobilized harvesters to the maximum, distributed them to the villages, and at the same time encouraged people to take advantage of the weather to harvest quickly, limiting damage. Up to now, the commune has harvested more than 40% of the area.
In Yen Hoa commune, the harvest atmosphere is also bustling. In Trung Tien village, four large harvesters are operating continuously on a concentrated field of more than 60 hectares. Many areas are flooded, making the harvest more difficult. Mr. Phan Van Kinh (Trung Tien village, Yen Hoa commune) said: "Although it is a holiday, the weather is favorable, so the whole village went to the fields early in the morning. If there is sunshine, the flooded and fallen rice will be easier to dry. I planted more than 1.6 hectares, just hoping for the weather to continue to be sunny so that I can complete the harvest." Farmers quickly pumped water out of their fields to facilitate harvesting and limit damage. Heavily affected by storms No. 5 and No. 6, farmers in Xuan Loc commune also went to the fields early to quickly harvest the summer-autumn rice crop. Mr. Nguyen Van Binh (Quang Tan village) shared: “The rice is ripe, so even though there is a lot of damage, we have to harvest early, otherwise the prolonged rain and wind will cause us to lose everything. The good rice is sold, the remaining rice that cannot be eaten or sold must be dried in the sun to make food for chickens and pigs.”
To keep up with the schedule, localities have mobilized more combine harvesters from other places, operating at full capacity. Mr. Tran Van Tuan - harvester owner of Yen Hoa commune said: "The water is still high, some fields are flooded, so harvesting is difficult. However, we try to take advantage of every hour, running the machines continuously to help people bring rice home or sell to traders, limiting damage." Although it is hard, for farmers, after a storm, "one sunny day is worth ten thousand rainy days", so people are trying to take advantage of the time to harvest the results after a season of planting and fertilizing. Many traders also stick to the fields, buying right on the spot to reduce the pressure of drying and transporting for farmers. Ms. Tran Thi Phuong - a trader in Xuan Loc commune shared: "Every day I buy about 30 tons of rice to send to the northern provinces. This is also the way we accompany the people, helping the rice to be consumed promptly, avoiding damage after the storm."
Implementing the directive of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, localities are taking full advantage of sunny days, mobilizing machinery and human resources to harvest quickly, preventing unusual developments of rain and floods. With the motto "green at home is better than ripe in the fields", up to now, the whole province has harvested over 2,500 hectares of rice, concentrated in the communes of Thien Cam, Thach Ha, Dong Tien, Cam Binh, ...
