People's Artist Quoc Hung takes office as Director of Vietnam National Academy of Music

(Dan Tri) - On the afternoon of June 16, at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the Ceremony to announce and award the Decision to recognize the position of Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music to Dr. People's Artist Do Quoc Hung took place solemnly.

According to Decision No. 1718/QD-BVHTTDL issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on June 6, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung officially holds the position of Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music - one of the leading academic music training institutions in the country.

This is the first time in the history of the Academy that a vocal artist has been assigned to the position of head of the school.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, departments, branches, leaders and former leaders of the academy, along with many artists, lecturers and students.

Many big names in the Vietnamese music industry were present to congratulate the new Director, including People's Artist Quang Tho, People's Artist Tran Hieu, People's Artist Bui Cong Duy, People's Artist Tan Minh, People's Artist Thu Huyen, Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan, Meritorious Artist Lan Anh, singers Trong Tan, Anh Tho, Le Anh Dung...

Speaking at the ceremony, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung expressed: "I am very honored and moved to be officially assigned the responsibility of being the Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the leading academic school in the field of professional music training in the country."

He expressed his deep gratitude to the leaders at all levels for their trust, the academy's collective for their trust, as well as gratitude to generations of teachers, staff, artists, and researchers who have contributed to building the tradition and position of the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

He emphasized the role of the Academy in the new development stage: “We are proud of the achievements of previous generations, and are more aware of the responsibility of today's generation - not only to inherit but also to innovate, not only to preserve but also to develop and reach international standards”.

Quoting General Secretary To Lam that music training is one of the sustainable pillars of national culture, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung affirmed: "This is the strategic orientation for the Vietnam National Academy of Music to continue to affirm its mission in the new period."

“I understand that the responsibility on my shoulders is not small. But I believe that, with the good tradition of the Academy, with the consensus of the staff, lecturers, artists, and with the attention of leaders at all levels, especially the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, we will together bring the Academy into a new stage of development: Steady, unique, modern and integrated,” he added.

At the ceremony, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung presented a bouquet of flowers to express his gratitude to his beloved mother - who gave birth to him and accompanied him on his career journey. Along with his mother, his younger brother - People's Artist Do Quoc Hien (dancer) - was also present, creating a touching image of an artistic family (Photo: Hoa Nguyen).

Dr. People's Artist Do Quoc Hung was born in 1970 in Dong Anh ( Hanoi ). He entered the Hanoi Conservatory of Music - the predecessor of the Vietnam National Academy of Music - in 1991. From intermediate to university, postgraduate and then successfully defended his doctoral thesis in music at this very school, he has devoted more than 3 decades to studying, teaching, performing and contributing to the largest music training cradle in our country.

As one of the leading bass singers in Vietnam, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung won First Prize in the National Chamber Singing - Musical Competition in 2000, received the Golden Cup at the Pyongyang Spring International Music Festival in 2004 and has had many international performance experiences in Germany, North Korea, Russia...

He was also invited to stay as an artist at the Hannover Opera House (Germany) after training and performing there in 1998, but chose to return to Vietnam to continue his teaching career and contribute to the country's arts.

Not only stopping at performing, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung is also particularly interested in scientific research. The book Training Opera Singers in Vietnam - the result of research published from his doctoral thesis - is one of the rare academic documents in this field in Vietnam.

In his work, he proposed many methods of combining European classical singing techniques with elements of folk music such as Cheo and Ca Tru - which he has devoted himself to researching, practicing and teaching for many years.

Before becoming Deputy Director and now Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung held the position of Deputy Director and then Director of the Vocal Department - one of the key departments of the academy.
