People's Artist Thảo Vân (real name Lê Thị Thu Vân - Tây Đô Theatre)
Don't let the title fade into oblivion.
That's the sentiment of People's Artist Thao Van when the People's Committee of Can Tho City and the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists recently invited her to participate in the judging panel of the Moc Quan - Nguyen Trong Quyen competition in 2023. "I'm very moved because after 7 years I'm finally being remembered so I can continue to contribute. In fact, when I was awarded the title of People's Artist, I became even more aware of my responsibility to the stage, but not being invited to participate in any performance activities made me feel disheartened," said People's Artist Thao Van.
People's Artist Thảo Vân (real name Lê Thị Thu Vân - Tây Đô Theatre) participated in the judging panel of the Mộc Quán - Nguyễn Trọng Quyền Competition in 2023.
She shared many stories about her years of dedication to the Tay Do Theater. The roles that earned her gold and silver medals are still vividly etched in her mind.
Although retired, she still hoped to participate in teaching or assisting younger artists in competitions, but after seven long years away from the stage, she sometimes felt that retirement meant unemployment.
Expectations for the younger generation of actors.
Joining the judging panel, she was delighted to see many young actors who had made significant progress in their singing and acting.
Specifically at the Tay Do Theater, she highly appreciated the tireless efforts of Phuong Anh, Hong Thuy, Le Duy, Hong Giang… in 2024, which opened up many new roles for the younger generation of actors in the Mekong Delta provinces.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City will host the 3rd Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Stage Actor Talent Competition - 2024. She believes this will be a place for young artists to showcase their talents. "I am ready to participate in supporting young people, helping them to embody their roles well in the competition. Competing to win prizes is a beautiful aspiration, but the most important thing is to prevent the career from declining. Each competition, each experience with the profession, will help young actors progress," People's Artist Thao Van expressed.

Ho Chi Minh City will also organize the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Festival, which will feature various art forms, including Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera), and she places her trust in the young generation of theatre directors.
"Traditional opera troupes in the provinces stage new plays every year, but opportunities to showcase talent and provide directors with practical experience are rare. Therefore, the Festival will create opportunities for a generation of young directors to develop their talents in staging, so that there will be many traditional opera works focusing on contemporary themes that are close to the lives of the audience," - People's Artist Thao Van expressed her expectations.
For her, each competition is an opportunity for artists to win more medals, aiming towards being awarded the titles of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist. However, she believes that titles must go hand in hand with responsibility; only when an artist considers their responsibility to beautify community life will the title truly be worthy of their name.
