Designer Thuy Nguyen brings the lyrics of 'Da Co Hoai Lang' into the new collection

The last two lines of the song "Dạ cổ hoài lang" seem to express the late artist Cao Văn Lầu's wish for complete marital happiness. This is also the inspiration for designer Thủy Nguyễn's new collection for wedding season. Her "brainchild" was recently unveiled at Vietnam International Fashion Week 2024 in Hanoi.

Beyond simply leveraging the strengths of Vietnamese culture with the ao dai (traditional dress) and the songs embodying Vietnamese values, Thuy Nguyen's "Swallow and Swan in Pair" collection also creates a fusion between the timeless beauty of East and West and the contemporary appeal of the ao dai, a garment celebrated throughout the nation's history.

While still maintaining the traditional ao dai, the designer incorporated details such as lace trim, as a way to evoke the Lemur ao dai – a creation by artist Cat Tuong that modernized the ao dai in the last century.

These designs are both traditional and modern, perfectly suited to the vibrant and ever-evolving world of contemporary fashion. The large headdresses transform the wearer into a magnificent bride, making her stand out on her special day.

Thuy doesn't forget to showcase her strengths: her interesting perspectives on colors like white, red, and pink… The sophistication of the ao dai dresses is further expressed through vivid paintings of the picturesque natural landscapes of Vietnam, encapsulating the best of the nation.

Thuy Nguyen also subtly expresses the theme of eternal love in marriage, offering blessings to couples through the language of fashion. This is clearly demonstrated by the motifs of birds, phoenixes, along with images of cherry blossoms, apricot blossoms, lotus flowers… meticulously hand-embroidered and embellished on the dresses of the "Swallow and Swan Couple" collection.

Finally, the quintessential Vietnamese beauty of the two queens, representing two different generations of women in modern life, Le Hang (in a white and pink ao dai) and Lam Bich Tuyen (in a yellow ao dai), stood out. Their graceful and elegant strides on the runway contributed to a successful show for Thuy Nguyen.
