Seeing that his daughter's family in Go Cong district, Tien Giang province had a stable income thanks to raising pigeons, in 2023, Mr. Truong Van Cu (Long Thanh hamlet, Long Tri commune, Chau Thanh district, Long An province) decided to invest and develop the family economy by raising pigeons.

With 3,000 square meters , Mr. Cu invested more than 600 million VND to build a farm, buying 1,200 pairs of French pigeons and Siamese pigeons to raise.

Through the process of raising pigeons, he saw that they were easy to raise, grew quickly, had few diseases, had simple food, had high market demand, and did not require much care, so he decided to expand the coop.

Mr. Cu increased the number of pigeons. Currently, his pigeon coop has more than 2,000 pairs of birds of various kinds, of which 1,500 pairs are breeding pigeons.

After deducting expenses, Mr. Truong Van Cu (Long Thanh hamlet, Long Tri commune, Chau Thanh district, Long An province) has a profit of about 20 million VND/month from raising commercial pigeons. Mr. Cu raises French pigeons and Siamese pigeons.

Mr. Cu said that one of the important steps in raising pigeons is to choose the parent breeds and take care of them until they can reproduce. The selected breeds must be healthy, have smooth feathers, be agile and have no defects.

Because the pigeons lay eggs continuously, Mr. Cu sells them weekly. On average, he sells about 300 commercial pigeons to traders each week.

Mr. Cu sells pigeons for 112,000 VND/pair of French pigeons and 92,000 VND/pair of Siamese pigeons. After deducting expenses, he earns a profit of about 20 million VND/month from this model of raising foreign pigeons.

Currently, Mr. Truong Van Cu (Long Thanh hamlet, Long Tri commune, Chau Thanh district, Long An province) has mastered pigeon raising techniques but still continuously learns from books and newspapers.

He also visited and interacted with large pigeon farm owners that he knew to improve his pigeon raising techniques.

Besides, he is willing to share pigeon raising techniques, care and disease prevention methods for pigeons for farmers who want to learn.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Chau Thanh district (Long An province) - Tran Van Ninh said: Mr. Truong Van Cu's model of raising commercial pigeons is an effective economic development direction.

In the coming time, the Farmers' Association of Chau Thanh district, Long An province will work with Mr. Cu to provide technical advice on raising as well as market orientation for members and farmers to develop a sustainable commercial pigeon raising model.
