On the morning of August 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a conference to announce the Politburo 's decision on personnel work.
Attending the conference were Mr. Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat; Mr. Le Minh Hung, Politburo member, Head of the Central Organization Commission; Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Quang Duong, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee, announced the Politburo's decision to let Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, cease participating in the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and cease holding the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term; participate as the Standing Member of the Subcommittee of Documents for the 14th National Party Congress; and at the same time monitor and direct the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee until the 14th National Party Congress.

In October 2020, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen was appointed by the Politburo to join the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term and was introduced by the Executive Committee to be elected as Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
At the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress, term 2020-2025, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen was elected Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the term 2020-2025 with 100% of the votes (62/62 votes).
On June 30, 2025, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen was appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee (new) for the 2020-2025 term;
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen was born in 1957. Hometown: Tay Ninh province. He has a high level of political theory; professional qualification: Bachelor of Law.
Before taking on the role of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen held many important positions: Secretary of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee; Deputy Head of the Central Highlands Steering Committee; Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department (now the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department); Minister, Head of the Government Office; Head of the Central Party Office...
Speaking at the conference, Politburo member and Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu suggested that Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, with his capacity and prestige, will continue to accompany, attach, care for and help Ho Chi Minh City to excellently complete its tasks in this important period.
