When asked to assess the next generation of Vietnamese players, Mr. Park addressed the broader issue of Vietnamese football: “Actually, I haven’t thought about the next generation yet. The VFF (Vietnam Football Federation) has a new leadership team, and I understand that the VFF has a plan for Vietnamese football to qualify for the 2030 World Cup. The issue is that when we want to do something, we have to reconsider the current situation and how the Vietnamese football training system, from youth upwards, is being built. We must achieve synchronization and a systematic approach, from nurturing players to many other important tasks.”
I need to see how the current players are being invested in. Without a system that sets a vision and goals, it will only be a wish, not an achievable one. We need to review whether the Vietnamese football system meets the standards, whether it aligns with our vision, and whether it's suitable for the 2030 World Cup goal. We can only achieve our goals when the system is stable. I think we've already achieved stability, but I think in the future, we need to sit down and assess whether the system is strong enough to achieve our upcoming goals.”
Coach Park is deeply loved and respected by the players. |
INDEPENDENCE |
Mr. Park recounted: “Over the past five years, I have spoken with my Vietnamese assistants many times. I told them that I am not the owner of Vietnamese football, but they are, because I will be leaving, I will be saying goodbye to Vietnamese football. For Vietnamese football to develop, they must think, they must proactively express their thoughts. Our assistant coaches are too meek, they have never dared to speak up to help Vietnamese football develop. I have often gotten angry, telling them that they are the owners, they must express their opinions. Besides, listening is also very important. I need to ask the press to pay attention to issues like this.”

INDEPENDENCE |
Once again, Mr. Park addressed the issue of Vietnamese players going abroad: “The Korean league has ended, many teams have changed personnel and are very interested in Vietnamese players, but in Vietnam there is a common denominator. The structure of clubs in Vietnam is such that they don't want to release players, so it's difficult for players who want to go abroad due to procedural difficulties. In Vietnam, not many players are readily accepted by clubs to leave and generate revenue for the club. In Korean and Japanese football, if a club wants a player to leave, they have to open their doors and create conditions for the player to leave easily. I think we need to be flexible in this matter.”
Speaking about himself, Mr. Park shared: “After my contract with the VFF expires, from now until January 2023, I don't have any specific plans but will focus on my immediate task, the AFF Cup. I also have a representative company, and they will outline my future. Whether I stay in Vietnam or return to Korea, I don't have any plans yet, but if there is a new path, it will also be related to football.”
'Communicating on social media is also good.'
Coach Park Hang-seo revealed his reason for using social media: "I'm from an earlier era and don't know how to use social media or other new communication tools. But as the head coach, I decided to use Facebook. I planned to use it after January next year, but those around me said that having a channel to communicate with fans would be good. When the team is training or entering the AFF Cup, I don't have much time to communicate, so I want to increase communication during this period. I'm currently learning how to use social media, but I'm not sure about the copyright issues involved."
