Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was appointed Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee.

Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, was elected by the People's Council of Can Tho City to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City to replace Mr. Tran Van Lau, who was recently appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee.

On the afternoon of October 3, Can Tho City People's Council held a thematic meeting to review and approve a number of contents under its authority.

At the meeting, the City People's Council passed a resolution on dismissing Mr. Tran Van Lau from the position of Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term (Mr. Lau was appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term on the same morning).

At the same time, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, was elected to hold the position of Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term. Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was born in 1969, from Thanh Hoa province. He has a master's degree in economics and a high level of political theory.

He has held positions at the Department of Finance of Hau Giang province, Deputy Chief of Office, Chief of Office of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of Chau Thanh District People's Committee (Hau Giang province). In 2015, Mr. Tuyen was elected by Hau Giang Provincial People's Council as Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee for the 2016-2021 term while he was Chairman of Chau Thanh District People's Committee. In 2020, Mr. Tuyen continued to be elected as Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

On February 10, 2025, the Secretariat decided that Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen (then member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province) ceased to participate in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee of Hau Giang Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term; transferred and appointed Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen to participate in the Executive Committee, Standing Committee and hold the position of Deputy Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

On February 20, Mr. Tuyen was elected by the People's Council of Can Tho city to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city (old) for the 2021-2026 term. When Hau Giang province, Soc Trang province with Can Tho city were merged to form the new Can Tho city from July 1, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen was appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

On September 27, at the opening session of the 1st Congress of Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2025-2030, Mr. Tuyen was re-appointed to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee for the term 2025-2030.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City from July 1 to present is Mr. Tran Van Lau. Before holding the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City (new), Mr. Lau was the Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang Province (old).

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen pledged that with his responsibility as head of the City People's Committee, he will inherit and promote the achievements and learn from the valuable experiences of previous leaders.

At the same time, make every effort, be dedicated, and constantly cultivate, train, and strive in all aspects, vowing to use all of our abilities, knowledge, enthusiasm, responsibility, join hands and unite with the Standing Committee of the City People's Committee and members of the City People's Committee to seriously comply with the leadership of the Central Government and the City Party Committee, and direct and operate in accordance with the resolutions of the City People's Council.

"In the immediate future, I and the Can Tho City People's Committee will focus on stabilizing the organization of the state administrative apparatus according to the two-level government model, ensuring smooth, timely, quick and effective work for people and businesses. Focus on directing the completion of the 2025 task plan, proactively researching and proposing solutions to remove existing bottlenecks to free up resources.

"Proposing new orientations and solutions that are close to reality to successfully implement the resolution of the 1st City Party Congress, term 2025-2030, making the city an important nucleus of the Mekong Delta region," Mr. Tuyen said.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Le Quang Tung assessed that in his working positions, Mr. Tran Van Lau has promoted the spirit of responsibility and solidarity, together with the city's leadership, well performed the assigned functions and tasks, making an important contribution to the city's development.

"Recently, you were mobilized, assigned and appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee and the Secretariat also appointed comrade Truong Canh Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, to be elected by the People's Council to hold the position of Chairman of the City People's Committee. This is the Central Committee's recognition and high appreciation of your capacity, prestige and contributions," said Mr. Tung.
