Through patrol, control, intelligence gathering, collected information, and practical experience in combating drug trafficking, Hanoi Customs received information about a large quantity of drugs being smuggled from Germany to Vietnam.

To promptly prevent, arrest, and dismantle drug trafficking rings, the leaders of the Anti-Drug Control Team proposed to the leaders of the Hanoi Customs Department to establish Special Case HP 524, led by the Hanoi Customs Department in coordination with the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (Hanoi Police) and the North Hanoi Customs Branch, to combat drug trafficking from Germany to Vietnam via Noi Bai International Airport.
The case was initiated by the Hanoi Customs Department on May 30th. Just four days later, on June 4th, the task force tracked the shipment and arrested four suspects, seizing approximately 179 kg of MDMA synthetic drugs.
This is a landmark case, a remarkable achievement, with the largest quantity of drugs ever seized via air transport.
The incident is currently being investigated, clarified, and handled by the relevant authorities in accordance with the law.

According to the leader of the Drug Control Team, in 2024, in implementing drug prevention and control work and the Month of Action against Drugs, based on the local situation, operational warnings, and directives from leaders at all levels, the Hanoi Customs Department has developed and issued a comprehensive plan and measures for combating drug trafficking and the Month of Action; at the same time, it has closely coordinated with specialized drug prevention and control forces to combat and dismantle drug trafficking rings operating via air transport.
According to the Hanoi Customs Department, the smuggling of drugs into Vietnam by air is becoming increasingly complex. Smugglers often exploit the situation by using drugs as "gifts" via express delivery or as "hand-carried" goods, taking advantage of delivery and shipping service providers, international students, and flight attendants.
Previously, in Ho Chi Minh City, authorities also discovered four flight attendants involved in transporting drugs through Tan Son Nhat Airport. Following this drug trafficking ring, the Ho Chi Minh City Police have so far prosecuted 318 cases with nearly 1,000 defendants, seized 319 kg of various types of drugs, some weapons, explosives, supporting tools, and other related evidence, with a transaction value of up to 28,000 billion VND.
