Finland not testing pipeline system for transporting goods using magnetic superconducting technology

Recently, social networks reported that Finland is testing the world's first superconducting magnetic pipeline system that does not require an engine.

According to a Facebook post on August 17, Finland attracted global attention when testing a cargo tube system using superconducting magnetic technology, reaching speeds of more than 500km/h without engines, wheels or rails.

"Cargo is stored in temperature-controlled modules, suitable for transporting pharmaceuticals, electronics and fresh food. With no moving parts in the tracks and storage compartments, maintenance is minimal, downtime is low and noise is almost non-existent," the post said.

The post claims that the pipeline system was developed by the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

"Initial tests on a 10km prototype line achieved stable levitation and speeds of 520km/h, demonstrating the feasibility of the technology.

If deployed nationwide, the system could redefine supply chains with its high speed, zero emissions and superior reliability,” the post said.

However, the fact-checking site Lead Stories said no media outlets reported on the pipeline test in Oulu, Finland, as social media had reported.

When checked, Lead Stories confirmed that VTT is a real organization, but searching for the keyword "maglev" on their website returned no results.

“Maglev” stands for “magnetic levitation.” Contrary to the Facebook images depicting the object levitating, the technology actually only lifts a few millimeters.

Similarly, searching for the keyword "maglev" on Yahoo and Google also yielded no results, while this technology is still only in the testing phase in some countries due to its high cost.
