According to data compiled by the Korea Statistics Agency, the number of foreigners aged 15 and over residing in the country reached 1.43 million as of May this year, with 923,000 of them employed. The figures show that both numbers increased by approximately 10% compared to the previous year, reaching record highs.
Among foreign workers, 78.8% are employed in companies with fewer than 50 employees, while 18.1% are employed in companies with between 50 and 299 employees. The data shows that only 3% are employed in large companies with more than 300 employees.
By nationality, 35.3% (the largest proportion) are people of Korean descent with Chinese citizenship, followed by Vietnamese with 11.3% and Chinese with 4.9%.
Data shows that approximately 33% of foreigners here have a monthly income between 2 million Won (US$1,535) and 3 million Won, with 24.4% earning more than 3 million Won per month.
