Cruel injury time, Vietnam women's team falls to Philippines
"Myanmar defeated the Philippines in two consecutive SEA Games and now the Philippines is doing the same to the Vietnamese women's team," Singaporean account Gen Nitsu commented on the Asean Football page about the 0-1 loss of the Vietnamese women's team to the Philippines at Chonbori Stadium (Thailand) on the evening of December 8.
Despite a resounding 7-0 victory over the Malaysian women's team in their opening match, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team faced many difficulties when facing the Philippine women's team in the second match of Group B, even though the team had just suffered a defeat against the Myanmar women's team in their opening match.
In fact, the Vietnamese women's team played better than their opponents for most of the match, but poor finishing in the final third of the field meant that coach Mai Duc Chung's team still could not score against their opponents.
Despite many attacks but not scoring, the Vietnamese women's team paid the price, allowing the Philippines to score in the 90+3 minute of extra time. That was the situation when Ramirez Mary Louise rushed in to score the only goal of the match after a block by goalkeeper Kim Thanh.
This defeat forced the Vietnamese women's team to win against Myanmar in the final round to secure a ticket to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the Philippines' chance of advancing was also bright when they only had to face the weakest opponent in the group, Malaysia, in the final round.

Witnessing the unfortunate defeat of the Vietnamese women's team, many Southeast Asian fans expressed surprise, especially when coach Mai Duc Chung's team played better than their opponents.
"I have seen the Vietnamese and Thai women's teams both lose to the Philippines, when they could not win against a team with many naturalized players from Europe and different physiques. But the Philippines still could not win against the Myanmar women's team. Congratulations to the Myanmar women's team," commented Myanmar account Saw Ban.
"The Vietnamese women's team played very well today. I'm sorry they lost in extra time. I still support the Vietnamese team to win a ticket to the next round," said Wai Yan Htet, also from Myanmar.
"Congratulations to the Philippine women's team. Just one more win and we'll make it through the group stage," Curtis Lopez, a Filipino user, happily shared.
"It's great that Philippine football won a double. The women's team beat Vietnam and the men's team beat Indonesia. So proud," James Kevin Bulagao emphasized.
"I'm not surprised. The Philippine women's team has qualified for the World Cup. They are still a very strong team in Southeast Asia," said Basil Siing, an account from Indonesia.
"Congratulations to the Philippines women's team. The Vietnamese women's team must try their best to beat Myanmar in the final match," Nguyen Thai Bao, a Vietnamese account, concluded.
