The draw has brought different moods to the teams participating in the 2026 World Cup. This has created different reactions from the head coaches of the teams after the draw ceremony in Washington DC (USA) last night.
Defending champions Argentina are said to have been drawn in a relatively easy group with Algeria, Austria and Jordan. However, coach Scaloni remains cautious: “They are all difficult opponents. Austria had a great World Cup qualifying campaign and we believe they are a very strong team.

Algeria too, the way they played made us wary. Jordan was also impressive in the qualifiers. Argentina will continue to play at the highest level, trying to bring in new players who can add youth to the team.”
Similar to Argentina, Portugal also did not face many challenges when they were in the same group with Colombia, Uzbekistan and the winner of the Intercontinental play-off group 1 (DR Congo, Jamaica, New Caledonia).
Coach Roberto Martinez said: "After knowing the opponent, we will start preparing for the World Cup. I am happy with the group because it allows us to play our first match on June 17. That makes the preparation plan much clearer. We will face a team from the play-off round, so we do not know who the opponent is.
Portugal have great respect for Colombia and Uzbekistan. They are teams that will be well prepared and will certainly pose a challenge.”
Coach Ancelotti's Brazil are in the same group with Morocco, Scotland and Haiti. Commenting on the opponents, the Italian coach said that this is a difficult group. He said: "This is a very difficult group. Morocco is very strong, Scotland is also strong.

Morocco played very well in the last World Cup and maintained their good form, while Scotland qualified for the World Cup by winning important matches in Europe. This team (Scotland) plays solidly, is very strong physically. Brazil must be careful with this group but I believe in the quality of the team."
Championship contenders Spain are not expected to face many challenges in the same group as Uruguay, Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia. Coach De La Fuente did not comment directly on the opponents. Instead, he affirmed that the team will have the best preparation before the 2026 World Cup.
“We are in the process of continuing to develop based on the foundation of excellent individual talent but always serving the collective play. Next March, we will have important friendly matches, then enter the pre-World Cup training camp. I hope to help the players recover after the stressful European season, to ensure the strongest force before the World Cup,” said coach De La Fuente.
Meanwhile, coach Thomas Tuchel commented on England’s difficult group with Croatia, Ghana and Panama, saying: “We improved a lot in September, October and November. We felt we had found our energy again and had good performances and great results.
We are excited because we know who we will face but we have to wait until March to regroup and then wait until June for the tournament to start. That is a small minus, but we will make sure we are ready.”
France were also drawn in a difficult group with Senegal, Norway and the winners of the Intercontinental Play-offs (Iraq, Bolivia, Suriname). Coach Deschamps said: “We were drawn in a really difficult group.
Senegal always have that extra motivation when they play against France and they have quality players and have had some impressive results. Norway were also in great form in qualifying, especially with Haaland and Sorloth scoring a lot of goals. They are all quality teams, but I think they would say the same about France.”

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said of his opponents Ecuador, Ivory Coast and Curacao at the 2026 World Cup: “It’s not easy with no other European teams in the group. The opponents are less familiar to us.
Germany will face the African champions (Ivory Coast) and Ecuador, who have many top players playing in Europe. Curacao is a real unknown. They qualified for the World Cup in a surprising way, but they absolutely deserved it. This is a group that will test us from day one.”
The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The opening match between Mexico and South Africa will take place at the Azteca Stadium on June 11.
