| Doctors at Duc Minh General Hospital performed laparoscopic surgery to treat a duodenal perforation caused by a fish bone in a patient. |
The patient was admitted with right lower quadrant pain radiating to the right iliac fossa, easily mistaken for conditions such as cholangitis, kidney stones, or appendicitis. Upon examination, ultrasound, and CT scan, doctors discovered a sharp foreign object located on the anterior surface of the duodenum. Emergency laparoscopic surgery was immediately scheduled.
During the surgery, the team discovered a fish bone, approximately 5cm long with a sharp tip, that had pierced the duodenal wall, causing severe inflammation and pain. The doctors skillfully removed the foreign object, repaired the duodenum, treated the inflamed and congested appendix, and placed a drainage tube under the liver in front of the duodenum to ensure the patient's safety.

According to doctors, if sharp foreign objects are not detected in time, patients may face the risk of bowel perforation, abdominal abscess, severe infection, and even life-threatening conditions. The success of the surgery affirms the sense of responsibility and professional competence of the medical team at Duc Minh General Hospital in handling complex cases, contributing to protecting the health of the people.
