Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with the Vice President of the European Commission on the sidelines of the 58th AMM Conference.

On July 11, on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-58) and related conferences taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had a bilateral meeting with Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son held a bilateral meeting with Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

At the meeting with Vice President of the European Commission (EC), EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in Vietnam-EU cooperation after 35 years of establishing diplomatic relations, creating a solid foundation for the two sides to consider promoting and bringing the relationship to a new level; emphasizing that in the context of many complicated developments in the world situation, the two sides need to continue to give high priority to strongly promoting cooperation, focusing on the fields of trade and investment.

The Deputy Prime Minister asked the EU to accelerate the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), promptly remove the yellow card on Vietnam's seafood exports, encourage European enterprises to invest in Vietnam's key projects on infrastructure, renewable energy, green transformation, digital transformation, environment, and speed up negotiations on the Vietnam-EFTA Free Trade Agreement.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed their delight at the positive developments in the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Partnership in recent times, especially after the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) took effect in 2020.

Affirming that Vietnam is one of the EU's important partners in the region, the EC Vice President agreed that the two sides should increase exchanges, especially high-level delegation exchanges, promote bilateral cooperation, make the most of the EVFTA, open the market, and turn cooperation in science and technology, innovation, green transformation, and digital transformation into new pillars in bilateral relations in the coming time.

Discussing regional and international issues, the two sides affirmed the role and importance of the United Nations Charter and international law, and agreed that conflicts and disputes need to be resolved by peaceful means, through consultation and dialogue.
