Preventing school violence in the digital age

Identifying school violence prevention as a key task, recently, Nguyen Cong Tru High School, My Thoi Ward has organized many models and solutions to build a safe and healthy educational environment for students.

Every school year, Nguyen Cong Tru High School organizes more than 10 direct and online propaganda activities, attracting more than 12,000 students to participate. The propaganda content focuses on topics such as: "Safe, healthy, friendly educational environment"; "Healthy living skills"; "Emotional management skills, preventing bullying"; instructions on how to use social networks safely and properly. At the same time, maintain the forum "Building beautiful friendships - Say no to bullying", helping students share their thoughts, resolve daily conflicts...

Nguyen Cong Tru High School Youth Union focuses on improving the quality of youth union activities through online propaganda, monthly topics and online playgrounds for students and union members with many topics such as Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20), Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20) ... to enhance digital skills and civilized behavior for students. The school also produces visual products and infographics on preventing and combating domestic violence to help students identify violent behavior, know how to behave and proactively report to authorities when necessary.

Tu Duong Gia Han - a student of class 12B9, Nguyen Cong Tru High School shared: "After participating in propaganda activities, I have understood and recognized the manifestations and consequences of BLHĐ. I know how to handle dangerous situations when I or my friends encounter them, avoiding unfortunate incidents. Especially when interacting with strangers or friends outside of school, I am more aware of prevention and self-protection."

Mr. Duong Thanh Tam - teacher at Nguyen Cong Tru High School said that in addition to the above activities, the school regularly invites the police and medical forces to propagate about BLHĐ, adolescent health, skills to use social networks safely, etc. Thereby, strengthening education and deterrence to help students feel secure and gain more understanding in studying. The school focuses on educating students about revolutionary traditions, self-reliance, and affirming self-worth through good actions and good deeds in society. "Thanks to that, the awareness and behavior of union members and students have changed positively; the rate of achieving good conduct has increased year by year," said Mr. Tam.

According to Ms. Ngo Dang Kieu Trang - Secretary of the My Thoi Ward Youth Union, the activities to prevent and combat domestic violence of Nguyen Cong Tru High School have brought about clear results and positive spread. The My Thoi Ward Youth Union plays a core role in connecting, orienting and supporting activities to the Youth Union and Pioneer bases. At the same time, it is a bridge between the school Youth Union and the Ward Police and a number of other agencies and organizations. "Thanks to the close coordination, the activities and models to prevent and combat domestic violence of Nguyen Cong Tru High School have contributed to improving the skills to prevent and combat domestic violence and creating a safe and healthy learning environment for students. The content of the model is flexible, suitable for many levels, from middle school to high school, so it can be expanded in the near future," Ms. Trang commented.

Mr. Duong Thanh Tam said that in the coming time, the Youth Union of Nguyen Cong Tru High School will advise the Party Committee and the School Board to organize more activities to educate students on life skills, emotional control skills, and safe use of social networks. At the same time, promote communication on social networking platforms; develop clubs such as "Friends helping friends", "Youth for the community" so that each member can become an active propagandist in preventing and combating domestic violence. When students are equipped with skills, listened to and protected, they will become more mature, know how to love and choose positive behaviors.
