18-year-old Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal has stopped offering free autographs to fans. This decision comes as Yamal's advertising agency is in negotiations to partner with a company specializing in marketing merchandise signed by global sports stars.
Their basic business principle is to make souvenirs signed by Yamal scarce, forcing people to hunt for them at high prices. According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo , this agreement will be officially signed in the near future.
This means fans will no longer have the opportunity to get Yamal's autograph for free. They will have to pay to find and buy merchandise that already has the talented star's signature.
Yamal explained this to the fans. Although he will no longer be signing autographs, he will still take photos with everyone. This is quite new in European soccer, but it has been around for a long time in American sports.
Especially with icons of the National Basketball Association (NBA) like LeBron James, signed memorabilia is a highly sought-after and valuable commodity.
This latest commercial project is a testament to Yamal's incredible marketing prowess.
The 18-year-old winger's name has become a global brand, as he is the face of a host of global brands including Adidas, Beats, Powerade, Oppo, Konami, and Nesquik.
These contracts helped him enter Forbes ' list of the world's 10 highest-paid players for the first time. Forbes magazine estimated that Yamal would earn a staggering $43 million, including $10 million from off-field commercial income.
