According to a statement by the Security Media Cell, a security organization and media agency affiliated with Iraq's Joint Operations Command, based on intelligence information, Iraqi warplanes conducted an airstrike on a hideout in a village near the town of al-Rashad, about 60 kilometers south of the provincial capital of the same name in Kirkuk.

The statement said that after the airstrike, the Iraqi army found the bodies of IS members, including one wearing an explosive belt, along with weapons and other equipment, but did not mention the number of militants killed.

The security situation in Iraq has improved since IS was defeated in 2017. However, since then, IS remnants have spread into urban centres, deserts and rugged areas, regularly carrying out guerrilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
