Quang Ngai: Completed evacuation of 27 households from ThatXo mountain landslide area

On November 1, Mr. Truong Cong Lam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tay Tra commune (Quang Ngai) informed that the local government has completed the evacuation of 27 households with more than 100 people out of the ThatXo landslide area.

Mr. Truong Cong Lam added that at around 1am on October 31, ThatXo mountain suddenly collapsed. This morning, the landslide continued to recur with increasing severity. About 900 cubic meters of soil and rock slid down, severely damaging the headquarters of the Tay Tra District Political Training Center (old), sweeping away the Center's office building. The landslide also completely collapsed two houses of the people.

Faced with the above situation, the commune urgently evacuated and relocated households in the area affected by the landslide to live together with relatives, concentrated in the Tra Nga village Cultural House and the Tay Tra district Cultural Center (old). The locality also provided enough food and essential food for people during their temporary stay.

According to Mr. Lam, the commune has also activated village shock force teams and local people to support the temporary repair of landslides; arranged warning signs and guards at these locations, absolutely not allowing people and vehicles to pass through to ensure safety.

Previously, on October 29, two landslides occurred in the commune, causing a large amount of soil and rock to flow into the garage, directly threatening the safety of the Tra Xinh Medical Station, Team 1, Tra Veo village, as well as collapsing the wall of the headquarters of the Front and mass organizations of Tay Tra commune.
