Review and re-count irrigation works across the province

On December 5, Comrade Chau Van Hoa - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited and departments, branches and localities to grasp the situation of management, operation and exploitation of Vung Liem sluice.

On December 29, 2021, Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 10 (Board 10) handed over the management and exploitation of the Vung Liem sluice to Dau Tieng - Phuoc Hoa Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited (now Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited).

The main task of the Vung Liem sluice operation company is to control salinity and high tides, create clean water sources, drain water, acid, and improve soil for 28,459 hectares of natural land (Vung Liem, Vinh Long 11,375 hectares; Cang Long, Tra Vinh 17,084 hectares); proactively take water, drain water, take alluvium, remove acid, wash away alum to serve agricultural production and aquaculture in the direction of diversifying agricultural production; create residential areas, combine water and road traffic to create a complete water and road traffic network.

The operation of the project is evaluated as effective, well controlling the water source, ensuring the salinity of 10/00 (gram/liter) does not affect the beneficiary area, while ensuring smooth and safe waterway traffic, supporting the arrangement of stable production for the locality. Up to now, the project has been operating stably and normally, always ready to operate to serve production and economic life of the project area.

However, the encroachment and violations of the corridor and protection area of the project by households have not been completely resolved, affecting the determination of the boundary, landmarks, and land area, to submit to the People's Committee of Vinh Long province to hand over the land for the Vung Liem culvert project to the Company for management.

At the meeting, the relevant units reported on the operation situation and difficulties in the management and exploitation of Vung Liem sluice; at the same time, the company requested the People's Committee of Vinh Long province to consider assigning the construction exploitation unit (under the Provincial People's Committee) to receive and hand over the management, exploitation and operation of Vung Liem sluice.

Speaking at the working session, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Chau Van Hoa directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to review and compile statistics on irrigation works in the province, and propose to the Provincial People's Committee a handling plan for projects that have not been handed over by Board 10 according to procedures, compile statistics on operating sluices previously assigned to commune and district levels, propose handling plans, assign specific responsibilities for operation, management and exploitation; at the same time, the units continue to coordinate, review and carry out procedures for handing over irrigation infrastructure assets of Vung Liem sluice according to regulations; continue to mobilize households that have encroached on public land and violated corridors to relocate according to the provisions of law.
