The mistake is to race for IELTS and ignore the foundation of vocabulary and grammar.

As one of the guest speakers at the counseling panel, Professor Le Hoang Phong presented the topic "How to balance your time in university with freedom of development." He explained that upon entering university, young people gain a great deal of freedom: freedom to choose credits, study time, and learning methods, taking control of their academic path. However, amidst all this freedom, discipline is a prerequisite for young people's success. How can discipline be maintained without sacrificing freedom, and how can everything in life be balanced?

Professor Le Hoang Phong pointed out several key solutions to the problem. First, students need to clearly define their learning goals, thereby knowing which subjects they should study and which clubs and groups at university they should join. Next, each person needs to cultivate a persistent and diligent mindset, never giving up. Furthermore, in the university environment, many people live far from their families and hometowns, surrounded by many "attractions." Therefore, self-control is necessary to avoid becoming overly engrossed in forms of entertainment, but also to maintain enjoyable experiences and quality relationships with like-minded friends and beneficial clubs at their university.

"What is the most effective way to learn English?" is a question many readers, especially students, are asking. In an interview with Thanh Nien Newspaper, an English teacher who holds a Leadership in Teaching certificate and a University Teaching certificate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, USA, stated that the crucial foundation for learning English is grammar and vocabulary, and that extensive practice and application in various contexts are essential.

At the same time, according to him, learners need to pay attention to English information on YouTube channels, podcasts, and specialized English materials to expand and closely integrate English into their field of study, rather than just aiming to learn English to get IELTS or TOEIC certificates.

Amidst the surge in students rushing to study for the IELTS, even those as young as elementary school, teacher Le Hoang Phong believes it's important to understand that the IELTS learning path is designed after the learning paths for other certificates such as Movers, Flyers, KET, PET, etc.

"Many parents see that 'other people's children' have high IELTS scores, so they 'skip steps' and send their children straight to IELTS, skipping the foundational Movers, Flyers... which play a crucial role in a child's thinking and language development. This is not good. As for students, when studying for IELTS, they need to determine whether they have sufficient foundational knowledge and grammar to learn this specialized, academic English skill, rather than assuming that simply being a student automatically qualifies them to study IELTS," Mr. Le Hoang Phong emphasized.
