On October 20, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Duy - Secretary of the Party Committee of Dong Son commune, Quang Ngai province - confirmed that a lightning strike occurred right in front of the gate of Binh Chau Primary School No. 2, Phu Quy school.
According to Mr. Duy, at about 7:20 a.m. the same day, during a thunderstorm, a lightning bolt struck the gate of Phu Quy School, Binh Chau Primary School No. 2, causing damage to the gate and many light bulbs in the classrooms to burn out.
Fortunately, at this time 95 students and teachers were in class so there were no casualties.
Immediately afterwards, the school promptly fixed the problem, checked the electrical system and stabilized the students' psychology to continue normal classes.
Mr. Nham Xuan Sy, Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai Province Hydrometeorological Station, said that due to the influence of storm No. 12 (storm Fengshen), on October 20, the eastern Truong Son area had moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places had very heavy rain and thunderstorms; the western Truong Son area had showers, moderate rain, and locally heavy rain.
"During thunderstorms, people need to be especially wary of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. It is forecasted that by the evening and night of October 20, the rain will gradually decrease," Mr. Sy warned.

Quang Ngai heavy rain, many places start to flood
Due to the complicated developments of storm Fengshen (storm No. 12) and widespread flooding, some areas of Quang Ngai province have begun to be flooded. On National Highway 1, the section passing through Duc Pho ward is flooded. The section from Duc Pho supermarket to Pho Hoa commune (old) is flooded with water on the road and sidewalks. Vehicles traveling on the route face many difficulties. Many people living along the route have had water entering their houses when trucks pass by.
Due to deep flooding, Quang Ngai province authorities recommend that vehicles proactively take the bypass route instead of following Highway 1 to the center of Duc Pho ward.
On Highway 1, officers from the Traffic Police Department of Quang Ngai Province Police were assigned to regulate and guide vehicles to avoid flooding and local traffic jams.
Meanwhile, on provincial road 623B, the section passing through Thach Nham spillway bridge bordering Tra Giang and Son Ha communes, water from upstream rushed to the bridge's surface. In some places, the water had overflowed, so authorities put up warning signs prohibiting vehicles from passing.
In addition to flooding, many provincial and national highways in Quang Ngai province are at risk of landslides and traffic jams. Currently, the Quang Ngai Department of Construction has directed relevant units to review and place warning signs at locations at risk of landslides. At the same time, response plans are ready in case of incidents.
